Have followed this thread for the last few days.
Am I understanding this right, they turned up at night with the horse in the trailer unexpectedly and you gave them a full refund.
Have to ask why and how?
Did you have the cash on you? A bank draft?
And the horse is lame but...
Depends on where you are riding.
On the edge of a city/town round lit surbuban streets, yes.
In the country on unlit roads, no. Though away from roads, no problem
The horses don't really care so much. If they need exercising then they need exercising.
What do people think used to happen when...
Have to say that raised my eyebrows as well.
Also why on earth do people think that there is less turnout now?
TBH, except in the summer to save some money, the attitude back in the 70's was "why on earth would you turn out". It was seen as quite old fashioned.
I think the main change...
I'm afraid I don't agree with this attitude at all.
Of course the first thought should be to stop the suffering. But having made them "comfy" why carry on for days, months, years?
Care for them, relieve the immediate suffering and then PTS.
Hand on heart, what are you giving them a chance...
Every little girl should have their own pony if they want one.
And the parents should post a video of them seeing the pony for the first time when it is theirs.:D
OK, now the serious answer.
I don't think anybody can ensure that the bug that has bitten currently will last throughout...
Why now?
Would have thought it better to start the placement, 3 months in, see how it is going and take it from there.
Also profile says you are based in Dorset?
Check out the NewForestEquineDirectory (NFED) website, it's great to give an overview of prices of horses round here, livery, grass...
I keep my pony at grass much like the OP.
One of the things that I can't put a price on is not being anywhere near a yard. Inevitably we compare ourselves with others and if you are feeling down, we do it more. Everybody else seems to be doing "better", seems to know more, has a better...
Have to agree with this.
There's a lot going on for your sister, she is already under pressure from the school.
Taking a decision without her being involved, without her seeing the horse could have serious consequences.
Take her to the horse and let the vets talk to her. Much better she is...
You make good points and everybody on a forum should be aware that not everything they read is quite as it seems.
Unfortunately, somebody decided they couldn't "live and let live" when an inadvertent turn of phrase was used and they decided to make it an issue.
So now the OP is in limbo...
It isn't racist language if it isn't directed at anybody because of their race or the poster is unaware of racist connotations.
I would have thought it was pretty obvious from the post that it wasn't, more like a derivation of "niggardly", or people who niggle.
"Niggardly" was wrongly deemed...
There's all sorts of things you can do though even without riding. There is more than the two options, ride or leave in a field.
Horses enjoy groundwork, they enjoy clicker training, they enjoy going for walks. they enjoy loose lunging, they like being fussed with, groomed ect.
I've just spent...
I find it even stranger that a person who buys a horse is then so worried about establishing ownership that they don't want anything to do with the previous owner who has produced the horse to the stage where they wanted to buy it in the first place.
Ah well, it takes all sorts.
The only...
Two ponies I know died in October from AM.
The thing is, they had plenty of grass and looked overweight if anything. Large field, and one of them had been in the field for the previous 2 years and nothing happened.
I wouldn't risk it and we have already cut down the young tree that was going to...
Going back to the OP.
Here on the New Forest the ponies avoid the stony tracks. Now they are all barefoot, their feet are probably about as tough as you are going to get in the UK because this is a relatively dry area. But still if you watch, they try and avoid the stones, hence every track has...
Sorry about the link, it's working for me.
It's possible it's the same vet, we are near the Dorset border.
Having read up on it, it warns about lack of fodder being a contributary cause. They eat the sycamore seeds.
The problem with these ponies was that the the field looked well covered in...
