Preparing a young horse for hunting

To give you a positive spin as well, my ex-racer stands better than my other one does out hunting, she isn't always as patient standing out hacking but is very good out hunting. I love hunting my other one but she properly wouldn't be everyone cup of tea, but I would quietly say that my ex-racer...

I have two, the ex racer who I've now had for a year, but due to various saddle issue could only get her hunting since the New Year (but was in work the whole time) has still been out about 15/16 times is having a bit of time off in the field as will do her good and thought she deserved it. The...

Brightwells end of season hunter sale

Would agree that buying at end of season if can prove it has been out a fair bit and still sound is pretty good. Also agree re hunt staff horses aren't always the best school master. Yes they are good with hounds but not used to being in the field, some aren't actually that brill with other...

Also have a look at Stormchase wrist warmers, help keep my hands warm, but can still use my phone do gates etc, worn without gloves and still ok only wear gloves with them on horse hunting at mo for a bit more control, and got a massive blister when I didn't, (was a...

What food to serve at meet

We've hosted one before at last minute, as Masters wife in labour, popped to local supermarket got quite a few 'minis' including sausage rolls, Cornish pasties and pork pies. Something small and easy to eat is the best, we all know it's not that easy on top of a horse. I also made some fairy...

    So very very thankful...

Glad you are both hopefully ok, it's soo scary when you know they could be on the road and nothing you can do, mine got me off, a really simple fall, two seasons ago out hunting and galloped about 2 miles on then Tarmac including jumping two cattle grids and up a rather steep hill, was caught...

    Amateur or not?

Whilst it doesn't turn you into a professional rider, if the rules are that you can't earn your wage from horses then unfortunately that also means grooms etc, is always best to check with the organisers. It's how the rule is worded and it doesn't work for quite a few people.

Travelling to shows - bad weather

I've travelled quite a few times in some pretty strong winds, not always the nicest, but not bad, allow more time for the journey and go at the speed you feel safe. Have to say I feel safer not on motorways. Last time I drove in pretty strong winds was mainly motorway to go hunting can't say I...

Havnt read all the thread but have the read the first few pages, can assure you that hounds do indeed see the vet, each pack has a letter drawn up with their vets re treatment, and are inspected by the MFHA that everything is correct every few years. I'm a vets daughter and also work at the...

    Grids between stables

Yes, have done this got one of our friends to do it, he does metal work so made the grid and then fitted it into our wooden stables, mares def like it. I realise when I went away and they had stables next to each with just bars between how happy they were, so this was the comprise when home. I'm...

Tack being hammered with all this rain!! :(

I keep my hunting tack in my kitchen as well, it's not that warm a kitchen and is away from the heat. This season I've been using a leather balsm (possibly Naff, label worn off) or horsemans one step. I'm quite bad and tend to let the mud dry off but then will get off all the mud and sweat woth...

    Flexi-rac hay feeder

Have them, prefer to hay bar as feel more breathable, easier to wash as all. Unfortunately horses still pulled hay out, so now have a tie ring at bottom which tie hay in a net to, but secured in the flexi rac. Other horse has an eazi grazer but they are rather expensive!
