    Coughing, snotty horse

I haven't changed anything apart from clipping him a week ago - Its only a trace clip and he has warm rugs! He is fairly allergy prone (has had urticaria) but in the 5 1/2 years i've had him, this is a first!! Thanks for advice, i will check him this afternoon and probably get the vet tomorrow.

    Coughing, snotty horse

Yesterday morning someone noticed my horse coughing and then saw he had a snotty nose as well. The snot is a kind of orangey brown colour and his cough sounds quite 'wet' and gurgly. When i went to do him this morning, he greeted me as per usual but his whinny sounded very 'flemmy' and then he...

    Anyone Part loan/Share their horse?

Yes, i work full time so, in winter especially, wanted my horse to be ridden during the week and in daylight!! I also needed help at the weekend and didn't want to pay for it or have any random person doing him. He responds better to one on one handling! So, my sharer does 2 weekdays and 1 day...

    CHECK LIGAMENT

My boy has done both check ligaments. First time he had 9 months off, shock wave therapy and was slowly brought back into work. Second time he was off for about 3 months, but had no SWT but brought slowly back into work after time off. He was lame for about a week, then not obviously lame at...

    Looking after TB horses?

I was actually thinking about rehoming one from a retired racehorse charity but a pre-requisite for the new owner/carer is TB experience!!! So i think I will be vetted more thoroughly than the horse!! Thanks for all the advice.

    Looking after TB horses?

Good advice - thanks. I usually get the farrier out on time (if not a little early) and yes, i think they are just like other horses!

    Looking after TB horses?

Hi there, i have ridden and looked after horses since i was 7 (23 now) and have owned my own horse for nearly 6 years. I have ridden TBs before and helped looking after one for a while but my experience with them ends there! I am thinking about getting one but is there anything special i need...

Horse drinking unusual amounts of water...

Thanks FranP - useful to know that statistic! I will contact ArthriAid company for info and monitor water intake as best i can for the time being. I might try soaking his hay whilst we are waiting for the haylage to arrive. I don't want to jump to conclusions just yet!!!

Horse drinking unusual amounts of water...

Thanks - i will monitor it for now. He had blood tests done 2 months ago after an allergic reaction and everything came back normal for liver and kidneys etc. I'd be surprised if he'd developed a condition that quickly! I was wondering about joint supplements and whether a side-effect is...

Horse drinking unusual amounts of water...

As of last weekend, all the horses at my DIY yard must now be brought in overnight, but can be out by day. Quite thankful as it is so cold!! I have noticed my horse drinking lots of water in the last week, much more so than normal. His bucket is empty in the mornings and then he goes straight to...

Blumin' eventing claims another horse, poor thing.

[ QUOTE ] as it happens claire horse can jump A LITTLE naturally in the same way that cats CAN swim but horses are not built for this as their primary function. they are supposed to outrun predators in the first place!! if you look at the relative heights that can be jumped by cats and dogs and...

    Bute VS Danolin?

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Research has shown that suxibuzone (danillon) causes less gastric ulceration that phenylbutazone. [/ QUOTE ] one bit of research. most of my colleagues think the evidence behind that claim is rather sketchy. i just use danilon on mine because he eats it and wont touch...

Aquamax / Nature's Best / Woody Pet - which is the best one?

I've used aquamax for 4 years and i love it for my horse. It's really absorbant, doesn't smell, dust free, quick to muck out, can't be eaten and i only use one bag per week (£5.95 each). Haven't used the others but i would recommend any bedding like this for horses with respiratory problems...

    How much should i charge

I'm on DIY livery and pay £26 per week for stable, year round turnout, arena, indoor exercise barn (not for riding!), washing facilities, tack room/rug storage and trailer parking. Haylage and bedding not included and any assisted livery charges on top. I think you can easily charge £30 per week...
