Sympathy required - and some lessons on "personal space"

PS - are you actively seeking a companion horse? Desperate friend is trying to find one for a small horse that will only ever be able to walk about, and not do much (not old) - very sad....

Sympathy required - and some lessons on "personal space"

Oh bless you...hope you're recovering! Youngsters, don't you just love them! Can I use the 'Parelli' word without getting shot down in flames? The theory of becoming the dominant mare would seem appropriate here. You can use your body language to create a 'no-go' zone around you. There is one...

Have you ever been downgraded by a friend?

You must have seen the email that comes around now and then: Friends are there for a reason, a season or life! The general idea is that people come into your life at different times and for different reasons. Some stay and some pass on through. Only a few will be there at the beginning, the...

Vote here for learning to lunge properly....a horse should stretch for a soft contact on the lunge. I always lunge from a snaffle, with a roller or saddle and side reins used correctly, not to pull horses head in, and usually use two reins, chopping and changing as you would change direction...

Can you lunge a horse without it working on the forehand??

Yes, if you learn to lunge correctly, then the horse shouldn't be working on the forehand! If you are struggling to do this, then you probably ought to find someone who can teach you face to face, demonstrate and guide you. The use of 'gadgets' to achieve this is as debatable as the use...

Horses and weight - is there any point

I couldn't agree more with Chumsmum...you could do so much on the ground to help with his weight, if you feel riding him is a really issue because of your weight (long reining is also great exercise for the human!). However, can I also add that a perfectly health 14 year old horse should suffer...
