Dog in a lampshade- frozen in misery!

you will have to keep it protected for now and possibly take back to vet. get a buster collar - your vet may even have one you can borrow. mine do.

    Despair - again

I wouldn't be in despair, tbh ... it sounds like you are going in the right way, and some dogs do take time to learn. look at it this way - maybe you got lucky with your other dogs and Rosie is a bit more normal! as long as the toileting behaviour in inappropriate places is decreasing, then...

Mare in Foal - looking for ideas re difficult situation

been following the thread but no suggestions, however glad to hear you have potentially found somewhere and hope all works out well for you. You sound very sensible and responsible ... best laid plans of mice and men and all of that ... hope things work out well for you and the horses.

    Does it ever stop hurting?

pilates on the ball helps stretch muscles that have forgotten they could. took a long break and did pilates and ball exercises before getting back on and found it really helped. well, i think it did, as although I hurt it wasn't as bad as i was expecting.

    Feel like quitting

do you really need to clip? if not I would forget it as it is obviously very worrying for your horse. if you do then i would get learn about clicker training, I would look up Hannah Weston, as your horse needs counterconditioning to this and not just a process of desensitization as her fear...

    Neighbour''s dog

I would print out this http://www.bhs.org.uk/safety-and-accidents/common-incidents/dog-attacks and highlight Dogs (Protection of Livestock Act 1953) and pop it through her door, or give it to her in person and ask her to read it, as it explains your concerns, why the horses are scared and may...

    JRT Snapping teeth together ...meaning?

no problem, you are welcome :) the reason for his behaviour around tiny children is probably because he has had limited experience of them, and tiny children do behave in ways that dogs find confusing and bizarre! he probably doesn't even know exactly what they are but he is getting...

Horse tears when scared! What do I do?

Poor horse :( Don't think 'I need to stop the rear', think 'I need to stop the reason for the rear'. The reason is fear, so that is what ou need to work on. You can do this quietly yourself, through desensitization (and counterconditioning if you want to use food). It would be worth you...

are your horses shod or shoeless and what do you do with them?

unshod and have been for the last 17 years, all horses, nine in total (currently have seven). But riding is straight onto open mountain and miles of grassy tracks, no roadwork, hours of riding and I don't feel the need to travel/ride anywhere else, so easy choice for me. all horses feet look...

RSPCA - Dogs should be judged on behaviour not appearance

dogs should definitely be judged on behaviour not appearance - who judges the behaviour is a bone of contention (pardon the pun). The reason lots of mastiff/staffordshire types end up in the news (apart from the stereotyping) is because of the sheer amount of damage they can do should they...

    JRT Snapping teeth together ...meaning?

If the male is a humper you need to take action now. he may be humping for a number of reasons, not nec connected to dominance (infact unlikely to be dominance) more likely to be general over arousal/excitement and 'doesn't know what to do with himself'. i would be setting up baby gates to...

Training class or socialisation class or both?

socialisation is fine as longs pups aren't learning to be bullies and victims - so it shouldn't be a free for all scrum, just two or three well-matched pups off at a time, with folk ready to call away if needs be. class should also include passing pups politely on lead and greet and move away...
