I must admit, for me there's a degree of pride attached. I've always wanted to earn the right to wear tails in the dressage arena - a sort of badge of honour!

Also - this weekend is the National Championships! So they may just be bogged down preparing for that. I know that the group I help with has gone into overdrive at the moment.

I'm also in Rugby, and was recommended Liz Fellows as an instructor - apparently she's excellent. Didn't manage to try her but may be another name for the books?

Fun ride - its only fun when the weather is good, SJ can still happen in bad weather if you pick somewhere with an indoor!

I know that when I was looking for a new riding school, one of the things I was looking for was the opportunity to use school horses for competitions - some places will transport a lorry load of horses for a group of clients to compete at select local shows, others are based at competition...

I paid £20, and would have happily paid a lot more after she nearly took the farrier's head off...

The riding school that I leant at had a nightmare with the neighbours/random passers-by cutting off grazing muzzles. In the end it came down to either overgrazing the fields or standing the ponies in on concrete for hours, because they all lived out and didn't have stables.

For me, I was comfortable enough to ride a very quiet horse after about three weeks - but didn't because I hadn't slept more than about twenty minutes at a time in that last three weeks because of the pain when lying down! By that point I didn't trust myself to be entirely rational... So I...

And one thing that I've always wondered: if a horse is overweight, should we be including that in how much we put on it? By which I mean, reduce the acceptable riders' weight by the amount of extra fat the horse is carrying?

It can also be interesting to note that different people 'suit' different weights better. I'm 5'7" and weight 10st 2lb - and have been told that I'm fat, offered diet leaflets etc. But I have a square build with broad shoulders and wide hips. I could, and have, lost weight but find that my...

Just remember to do a quick skin test before you use something new: a friend found out that her cob was allergic to baby shampoo - but only after he'd lost half his coat. Literally, huge bald spots. Not a good look! Grew back quickly, though, thank goodness, and he only ripped two rugs to shreds...

If your vet signs off that the microchip is right, you can usually get the passport issuer to sort out the rest - they did with my girl. As Shay said, the dealer didn't bother to get the passport changed while she had the horse, so she couldn't sign off. It shouldn't be a problem.

I'm an apprentice - engineering, so not quite the same thing, but nonetheless I do understand the problem of being faced with that choice! Personally I chose the apprenticeship because university debt is just ridiculous, and because knowing how to do the job can be just as important as knowing...

The way I understand it from your last post, you OH probably remembers horse ownership as making you miserable - and perhaps the negativity is him trying to protect you from repeating that. A chat about why you were having trouble before, and why its not going to be the same, might help?
