Picking up contact without giraffe impersonation

I'm intrigued by this... genuine question - how do you do that? Have you got any practical tips on picking up with seat and leg?

Picking up contact without giraffe impersonation

I totally love this statement - fundamental and something that eluded me for many years.

Picking up contact without giraffe impersonation

Have you ever tried working in-hand with her? If I had this issue (and it isn't a big one - she's just not sure, but I would also guess shes young and possibly a bit heavy on the forehand) I would go back to basics on the ground and work with a bridle. There are some great books if you wanted to...

Traveling an older horse loose and without a partition?

I can't see a picture, which might help us, but I'm imagining that the rear-facing conversion gives the horse head space at the back rather than the front. The front of the "unit" will be a flat wall? Behind which, is the cab. The problem that comes to mind, is that if she does turn, there is no...

Hind limb lameness and toe dragging

I think ponynutz is right, don't think the worst. Do your research as so much is available online and try to get your head around not just the bad, but the good as well. It could anything from spinal, pelvic, to individual joints and muscle issues like PSSM. Work it all through with a good vet.

    Nicola Wilson Update

The study does explicitly record all falls in FEI events which required body protectors including air jackets, so there were no leisure riders, nor were there any randomisation to higher risk events as far as I can see from the study.

Pet flea treatments poisoning rivers across England, scientists find

The problem is enormous in our waterways, not just pet parasites killers but human ones too. Also all our medicines, enzymes and hormones and everything else you can imagine that is flushed down the loo from our waste and whatever else we apply e.g. sunscreen, moisturisers, acids, alcohols...

New horse regressing in behavior, at a loss

Always very difficult to really know for sure from descriptions but mares are, entire animals, and that comes with hormones and growth spurts and growing pains, especially at her age. The paragraph that grabs me the most is the one about what she is fed - as PAS has noticed. Why is she on a...

Debate for the rights and wrongs of racing

Some great views and debates, I would agree with those comparing it to other disciplines in equestrianism at the moment. New evidence regarding digestive health, joint and hoof health, muscle maintenance over the last 10 years are not reflected in the management of equines consistently across...

Ever wished the ground would just open up..???

The funniest post in a very very long time. Thank you! I've got a very intelligent, experienced but blunt friend and I absolutely adore her for it. I can count on her to give me the truth. There are not enough people like her. I'm sure there are people who cannot stomach her brutal honesty but...

    Total lack of respect

Despite what people say.... horses do learn behaviours. Only the very very worst though. Anything good, no, forget it. Never had a bucket flinger until the bucket flinger moved in. Never had a whickerer until lady loud mouth moved in. No they all whicker waking everyone up at 5am. Never had...

I was until a few weeks ago when a nurse in our neighbourhood said her dog was petrified. We've stopped.

    Total Contact saddles

It piqued my interest given it was 4 yers ago by the same poster. I'd never paste my old posts.... would you? Most riders ride in a chair seat. That's kind of what british riding is. The fact that people notice it in a TCS is 1: you haven't read the instructions and 2: you ride in a chair seat...
