Maybe try a nose net -helps my boy a lot re flies up his nose etc!! Also a bit of Vaseline round his nostrils before you go out. Mine is also worse in walk!
I use vetvits msm and glucosamine for my boy. He has navicular and like your lad has had some pretty hefty mileage on his legs ( was an eventer in his past life). I'm same age As you but only really hack him now but have had no problems with him for the last two years ( since using...
Epilepsy maybe? It's quite rare in horses but my sisters horse has had a couple of small 'episodes' (as far as we know) she kind of collapses just for a few seconds - never when ridden though thank goodness! Apologies if this is something you have already considered
For me, as a fairly ancient rider, my time at the yard is my downtime -it kind of allows me to get off the 'treadmill' and have a bit of peace and quiet. The actual riding is a bit of a bonus !! When I eventually lose my boy I think I will be at a real loss to know how to fill that empty space...
Not unless I really have to and not on hard/rutted ground either. Actually don't do the schooling or lunging anymore and I have seen a big improvement in my boys way of going. Personally as much as I really enjoyed the schooling side of things I'm not sure that circles etc is great for horses...
I know of a lovely six year old who I think has hunted two seasons. She is up for sale from a lovely lady in Cambridgeshire who has lovely well rounded and well behaved horses! Don't know whereabouts you are looking but I would be happy to give you her details
My boy has navicular and I suspect arthritis elsewhere (is 15 and ex eventer) have been giving him vetvits glucosamine and msm (in separate tubs) it's not the most expensive but he has been on it for a year now and touch wood not had a moments lameness !! Maybe it works maybe not but I daren't...
My boy can be the same so I lead at all times in a chifney - safer for me and for him. He is very respectful of it so that I rarely have to "use" it as such.
Wish I could say the same! Just got my renewal from NFU. They have increased my payments by £200 per year!! I knew it would go up as I have an open claim for liver problems earlier in the year which are completely resolved but I thought it might be £50 or so. Needless to say I'm looking into...
I have to use roads to get to the bridal paths fortunately my boy is brilliant on roads with any sort of traffic but that was the biggest criteria for me buying him in the first place!
My boy suffers with this too. Fortunately it only really lasts while everything is just coming out eg. Rape fields, pollen etc. I use the nose net which does help (have also tried Vaseline but not really sure if it helps or not) I try to ride in more open spaces I.e not next to bushes and it...
