    Saddles Advice please, which type?

Your saddle should fit the horse. However if it doesn't fit you also it's less than useless; you'll never get a balanced seat which isn't going to help any horse, least of all one that has existing issues. So go and sit on some different makes of saddle and see what your bum likes, then use...

    Rats, rats... & more rats!!!

It's more, if you *know* you're touching a litter box you take precautions, but stuff like feed bins often get refilled without cleaning (or just topped up!). Cat poop happens in places you might not initially think of or see. I bet they loooove indoor schools!

Good £0-300 mens field boot, long thin legs. Thank you

Straight cut across the top will be an issue, if I were you I'd contact all the dealers specialising in second hand boots; you might get lucky and the quality would be much better for the price.

    Rats, rats... & more rats!!!

Just a quick heads up on cats, which may or may not affect you. The toiletting habits of any cats mean that they will use any open grain (and wood pellet stables) as latrines. The former is relevant as it's a major cause of toxoplasmosis. This causes a huge range of problems (although more...

    mad idea re: turn out?

Is there any possibility to have a slightly larger stable (corner box?) or one with a little bit of yard outside. If you could get a larger stable and have bed up one end so she at least got a variety of footing it would be better. I too have a horse that prefers to be stabled. He'll go out for...

how to save hay from wastage without restricting intake?

You could feed it in a shipping container with both doors set open (a feed tube if you will) Alternatively use your shipping container as a windbreak/ hay store. You can get them cheap as chips and they're not a permanent structure. Such handy things to have around, if unsightly.

"No martingale and a simple snaffle bridle"

There's such huge variation (especially in puissance) amongst showjumpers though. In conformation, approach, and jumping technique. Some of them are very toe first landing in canter, and look a bit over at the knee. Likewise, a lot of slightly ewe necks. Not to take anything away from their...

    Feeding advice for sweetitch mare?

Could another allergy (say a food stuff) exacerbate a low level sweet itch, making it more obvious? If histamine levels were already high; I think most allergies can be cumulative in that way.

Is ET the way forward for Rare Breeds?

It's understandable. It's taken me months to work out how to put up a profile pic. I don't really like the internet! At 30 foals a year, how long does the breed have?

Is ET the way forward for Rare Breeds?

Am very interested, most practical experience (AI/ ET) is with cattle/ pigs which has a few critical differences (mainly regarding induced ovulation and ovarian hyperstimulation effects of hormone therapy due to mares ovary structure, and equine low fertility) but the overall picture is similar...

    Rats, rats... & more rats!!!

You may get a particularly high kill rate but you might find interest from someone with an airgun. Similarly if you let someone shoot rabbits on your land they may take care of the rats as a thankyou.

    Rats, rats... & more rats!!!

Ah yeah, it probably would be harder on Jills, I've only really had hobs, and they get enormous, whilst still capable of tight spaces. Ferret trackers have made me much more confident about letting them into places. Mhmmm..... well, might backfire for chicken protection when they eat all the...

Is ET the way forward for Rare Breeds?

I guess tbh there's also an argument for grading up/ in to be possible as it is with CB and ID. I wonder if anyone has the resources to actively pursue a line for grading up. I think it's a 15-20 year job though so you'd have to hope they didn't change the rules in the meantime!

FERRETS! Also keep teenaged boys away from the internet. Big hob ferrets are slinky deathmachines.

Safety tips - things you've learned

Yes, in the hands of experienced people in non-panicked situations knives can be fine. I shoot deer; the use there is probably analogous to haylage gralloch. I've yet to see an injury or mischief resulting from a seat belt cutter though. Additionally they are not desirable to pilfer so can be...
