Glue shoes... Anyone else used them?!

They are removed after 6 weeks like regular shoes, but from what I understand they basically have to be cut off and new ones put on. They are an aluminium shoe with a sort of rubbery plastic coating that wears down over time. I will find out more in 6 weeks though when the farrier is back!

Glue shoes... Anyone else used them?!

Really relieved to hear positive things! They've been on since Monday and so far so good. My farrier said to treat them no differently to a normal shoe, so hes back out in his muddy field. He seems really happy in them actually, even though they look like an equine version of Crocs... :D

Exactly that!!! These were £50 on top of my usual full set...!

    Bucking and broncing in canter

I had a very similar problem last year - my boy was also recovering from colic surgery! When I first started to hack him out again (about 5 months after surgery) he would buck in canter, some days worse than others, less so in the school, but he just seemed more irritable and showing signs of...

    Non "brand" rugs ??

I've had a Bridleway Ontario turnout for about 3 years now which I picked up for about £30 in the sale at my local tack shop. It's a medium weight and he literally lives in it for most of the year. It's only just starting to go into holes now where the belly straps are stitched on - it's...

    First horse monthly budget?

You're lucky that you don't have a car to pay for! If you're only looking for a horse to share, you may find that the cost is actually a lot less than you are anticipating, depending on what you are looking for. You certainly sound like you're being a lot more sensible than I was, best of luck...

Glue shoes... Anyone else used them?!

UPDATE: The glue shoes are on! Bit fiddly as my farrier hadn't used this particular brand before and the orange beastie wouldn't stand still for 5 mins to let the glue set at first... The transformation in him was incredible though, as soon as he realised it was no longer sore he went from being...

    First horse monthly budget?

It is possible - I bought my first horse while I was still working part time, although I had quite a large amount in savings at the time. Like you, I was fortunate to have parents that were willing to help me out when I needed it. However, I really did struggle for money after a few months...

    Thrown a shoe and Lame

My boy lost a shoe in the field last week too. The mud is just ridiculous at the moment :( He has very flat feet and low slung heels (also a TB, there's a surprise!) so as soon as he is shoeless he is ouchy. We tried barefoot once and it just isn't possible sadly, as much as I'd love him to be...

Riding boots... if you were going to splurge?

I had a rash moment and treated myself to some Brogini boots a few years ago. Took a while to wear in but they are soooo beautiful! Didn't even have my own horse at the time...!

    Changing bit... Your thoughts!

Thanks for all your suggestions, I think I'll try the Eldonian one first - thanks Pinkvboots. He is definitely chomping on it rather than mouthing. It's not constant, but it does make sense that he might be doing it when he's concentrating as he hasn't really been schooled properly in years. I...

Glue shoes... Anyone else used them?!

So to cut a long story short, my TB who has weak feet anyway managed to pull a front shoe off in the bog that once was our field and somehow took a chunk of hoof wall with it. Farrier can't nail onto it now as there's nothing left on one side, so he's ordering me a pair of glu-shoes for his...

    Changing bit... Your thoughts!

Thank you! I've just had a look at that now, it looks a lot like the one I was considering, the Neue Schule Team Up. You're right, it's a really good price too! Great to hear you've had such good results with your horses in it too :)

    Changing bit... Your thoughts!

Thanks :) There's some really interesting points there.. I haven't really schooled him much at all in the 3 years I've had him (I used to hack mostly) and I hadn't thought about it being down to stress, although he's generally quite a laid back chap! You mention your Topaz, thinking about it...

    Changing bit... Your thoughts!

I've been thinking about trying my horse (11yo ex-racer) in a different bit for a little while now, I've only really started bringing him back into work in the last 3 months or so after he had colic surgery in 2014. He's always been in a loose ring single jointed snaffle (I never changed from...
