Feed ideas to help hoof growth for the poor doer

Thank you both, I will read into these suggestions :-) I would really like to get it right for him. I am also conscious that if I went for the supplement route, I will need to find a hoof friendly feed to carry a hoof supplement that he will actually eat.

Feed ideas to help hoof growth for the poor doer

Hello, I am thinking of changing one of my horses feeds to aid the recovery of a hoof injury, where he has damaged the pedal bone, due to being trimmed too short and his sole being thin. He is currently being treated by the vet for this injury. He is a 15hh welsh x TB 19years old, lives out on...

How far do you travel to your yard?

We have the ridden one at a livery yard 25 minutes away, generally go one side of the day and lovely yard owner does the other side of the day. We also rent a field/stables that is 7 minutes from home, where our Shetlands, retired horse and 3 year old all live. I go there twice a day.

Following on from ‘Old School Stable Management Routine’ thread

Between me and my sister we have these 2 routines: Retired/Youngstock Group: 6.30AM - Feed all 3 in the field. Whilst they are eating, pick feet out and check them over. 6.45AM - Poo pick the field, skip out the open stables, fill the water trough and put hay out. 7.15AM - Feed the birds and...

    What’s the BEST detangler?

I have always used Carr & Day & Martin Canter Mane and Tail Conditioner but I won a bottle of Cavalor Star Shine Detangler on facebook and I honestly love it! It brings my grey's tail up beautifully.

    Hayfever and horses!

I went to the doctors in the end as it was so bad and was prescribed Fexofenadine. I pay for the monthly prescription (about £10) and I am so much better now, as long as I take them half an hour before I expose myself to the yard/horses.

Hard feed to tempt an old guy?

Veteran vitality is a tasty feed, one of the feeds I use on rotation for my fussy old boy.

How are y’all coping in this heat??

My 2 oldies and youngster have open access to 2 big airy concrete foaling boxes and have been spending lots of time out of the heat in there. At the livery yard my 2 ridden horses have no shelter in their fields so they are in for the worst of the heat in the day. It's marginally better but the...

    Irresistible feeds for weight gain

I had my old boy on veteran vitality for 2 years and it was fab, all of a sudden end of last winter he went off of it and now won't touch it at all. He is now fed just spillers digest condition cubes, with minimal grass in his field but ad lib hay by the round bale in the field. He looks fab on...
