To muzzle or not to muzzle...?

Thanks all. I'm still undecided but will look into the training. Would just so love to take him on more interesting walks, especially as his brother is fine with other dogs so he gets to go to the park everyday. OH takes him to fields or quiet parks with a ball and as long as he has a ball all...

To muzzle or not to muzzle...?

Him feeling more vulnerable and stressed is what worries me. But then he so loves getting off his lead and exploring on footpaths and I feel I can't let him off just in case a dog appears round a corner or something. He also sometimes approaches other dogs because I think in a way he wants to...

To muzzle or not to muzzle...?

Unfortunately I just can't take him to the park at all - our local parks are full of people who think it's OK to let their large bouncy dogs off lead run up to an on lead dog!

To muzzle or not to muzzle...?

I have a 7 year old JRTx. He's quite a neurotic character as well as being bossy and strong willed, and since he's been an adult dog has not been good with other dogs unless he knows them well. He was bitten badly and completely terrified by a large dog when he was 6 months old. We have his...

    Riding gear for little ones

Thanks all. Her feet are size 6, we've just had loads of trouble buying school shoes as Clarks etc just don't make them that small. I've been slightly horrified at the price of little jods and boots! I'll check out decathlon and eBay. My gut says she needs a back protector and wearing one...

    Riding gear for little ones

My 4 year old keeps stealing my pony ;) this week she's discovered pony games. She has a riding hat but that's it - wondering where the best place is online for little jods and boots? She's tiny so she's in age 3 and has tiny feet (however, she is big on attitude :D) she'll probably want them...

    Which breed...

A JRT would love the kind of home/lifestyle you mention op. Mine think they are people and want to go everywhere, do everything with us. They'd prefer never to go on actual walks (although will happily walk with us for miles) - they like to be busy at home. Mine are JRT crossed with a bit of...

Working Livery - good, bad? costs, fees, contracts?

I have mine on working livery (in Leicestershire funnily enough! Are you on one of the big riding school yards here?? There are a few that I think could be great for WL?) My pony loves it - he loves the kids, the fuss and the fun, he's very settled there as he was on livery before going into...

post your dog walking rants here....

People just letting off lead dogs charge up to my (fear aggressive) dog, or people with dogs on extending leads on pavements who don't reel them in when we walk past so their dog can approach mine. And then when their dog gets snapped at they huff and mutter things about my dog being poorly...

    Hiding your pregnancy

Agree with this. It sounds like a 'needs must' situation. I did a combination of 'the weather is crap/really busy time at work/been a busy summer for pony so giving him a break/being vague about when I last rode'

Help oh wise Horse and Hounders - Dog Re-homing

All good thanks - hope you're well (and significantly better than when I last saw you, lying on your back and telling me in no uncertain terms that you were not going in that helicopter!)

Help oh wise Horse and Hounders - Dog Re-homing

*waves at zip - hope you're well?* Would any of the local rehoming centres rehome him from your parents' home rather than taking him into kennels? Off the top of my head, there's Dogs Trust at Kenilworth, Leicester animal aid at huncote, East Midlands dog rescue at enderby/Narborough. Maybe...

    Nightmare terrier strikes again!

Oh OP I do sympathise. I have two jrts, a 3 year old and I work from home too. I posted recently about exercising my terriers and got some useful advice so maybe have a look at that thread? Conclusion was generally that on lead walks do no good - they need to run and play. Have upped that...

    Terrier owners...

We actually did do agility with the older one until it became just too difficult to guarantee that another dog wouldn't run up to him. Just taken them for a good off lead run in a field with my mum and her dog. Much running and rolling in fox poo - so they are happy!

    Terrier owners...

Ok. I think I need to re-think their exercise. Keeping their brains busy has been tricky as the younger one is only 9 months old and the older one has taken a while to adjust to having a little brother... We've had to be really careful with providing toys and treats. This is all settling down...
