Tendon boot recommendations and a Pops update...

Wow! Bless her. You must be over the moon now and it sounds like you're giving her every chance! I get that tendon boots won't help it heal as such but I don't see anything wrong with putting them on to stop the horse knocking themselves. Some people even put hard shell boots on to turn out in...

Feed for a TB who has been on nothing!

Bless her! You'lll probably get away with something like Happy Hoof to add the supplements/bute into, it won't fizz her up and she'll probably enjoy being in a routine with it, then you could gradually start her on some kind of mix when she's coming into work to help build muscle. Hay shouldn't...

Tendon boot recommendations and a Pops update...

They're both fully recovered -- thanks!! One was a few years ago and the other was about 10 years ago haha. But I'm always paranoid so put boots on for any fast work or jumping and I still cold-hose after jumping, and put stable bandages on at night. There are also schooling wraps etc if you...

Feed for a TB who has been on nothing!

I'm in almost exactly the same position with a horse I've just got :) I'm feeding him Happy Hoof Molasses Free and Spillers' Condition Mix. I started on very little and have now built him up to a tiny bit more, and aim to have him on a "normal" size feed by end of November ready for the colder...

Tendon boot recommendations and a Pops update...

Veredus. Or as a cheaper alternative, I have some Le Mieux Teknique Jumping boots that I love... they have the same properties as the Veredus (gel shock absorption, well ventilated). If I were you I would prioritise ventilation in your search as you want to avoid heating the legs and some...

Refusals at water jump advice please!!

Thanks so much for all of your advice! We practiced and I got her trotting in and out both with a lead and without :) and it's the same jump that would be in the competition. I had entered and was looking forward to it but unfortunately have had to withdraw as I think she's put out her pelvis in...

Barefoot - one will, one wont - any ideas?

If you use the Keratex in spring, when the weather/ground changes, you shouldn't need to use it all summer for it to have an effect. If he's on/off shod it could be that his feet need time to adapt to being barefoot, and before they've adapted, the shoes are going back on, so he's bound to be...

    How treat mucky eyes

Another suggestion.. my horse recently came in with an eye so swollen it was almost totally shut (I thought it was from the flies but now I think it was conjunctivitis) and I used Golden Eye eye gel (available from pharmacy) and kept her in until it completely cleared up. Took about 3 days but I...

    Feeling anxious

Pulling on her mouth when she started cantering (which is a natural reaction I know) might have caused the walking backwards. Hard to know what caused the cantering in the first place. As alway get her saddle, back, teeth checked, and get a good riding instructor to work with you if it continues...

Do nervous people make nervous horses?

I've seen this happen a few times too. I've also seen my horse the most scared she's ever been (ditched me and galloped home on a gravel track, jumped a 5 bar gate, fell over and got up to carry on galloping, all with a tendon injury... never ever behaved like this before or since!) out on a...

Would you be put off buying an 'unshod', barefoot horse?

Another vote for would see it as a positive thing! My connie is unshod (took her front shoes off last summer) and has fantastic little feet. You have the option to put shoes on yourself but it's much harder to transition to being barefoot!

Refusals at water jump advice please!!

Great, thanks for all your advice! We're practicing at the actual jump tomorrow so the plan is to walk her in on foot with a lead, then ride her in in walk with a lead, then on foot without a lead, then walk in ridden without the lead, etc. With lots of time spent circling around the...

The usual Yard A yard B question..

I see, fair enough! That's quite a bit more than I paid so I can see why you'd be reluctant!! It sounds like it may well be that they wouldn't fill it as quickly anyway then. If it's any help when I was trying to decide whether to move or not, I made a list of pros/cons too and just talked to as...

    XC schooling vids

You can really see her confidence gradually growing in the water! What a sweetie. Did you lead/walk in first? Struggling to get my little one in water at all.

Refusals at water jump advice please!!

So did you just lead her in and around the water a few times at a schooling day before riding her in and build it up from there? My little one is quite good at following me but last time even that wouldn't work. Although I too was in leather boots that weren't the most waterproof so my reaction...
