I'm surprised dectomax has been recommended for treatment of oxyuris (pinworm). Although it's from the same family (Macrocyclic lactones) as the ivermectin drugs which are licensed to treat pinworm, it's not exactly the same drug - it's doramectin rather than ivermectin. It's also not actually a...
That's fine if your 2yr olds can lunge and you are happy to work them hard to exacerbate any underlying conditions. However, the vast majority of 1/2yr olds I have come across cannot lunge and if I were selling a baby, I'm not sure I'd be happy for it to be doing excessive fast work for vetting...
A 5-stage vetting isn't really feasible on anything unbacked. With expensive youngstock, further investigations are often sought (TB babies presented at the sales will often have x-rays/respiratory scope results available) and if I was going to buy an expensive unbacked (prob WB) youngster for...
I'd say that was fine, depending on your horse and you of course!
In my first season of eventing, I did 5 events at Intro level in the space of 4 weeks (at the end of the season) - and the best two performances were the last two :)
Unlikely. Insurance companies tend to pay out for loss of horse if humane destruction is the only option available. There should be a list on the BEVA website detailing what constitutes immediate euthanasia on humane grounds; this list even excludes some life-threatening conditions (in which...
I once had to attend an enormous recumbent horse - owner away on holiday, wife looking after the horse - the animal had been found on its side in the field first thing in the morning and despite hours of trying, no-one could get it up. Wife called me out to put the horse down - old mare they'd...
OP I think you ride very nicely. I agree with the comments to be aware of the horse's physical and mental immaturity and not to overdo any work at this stage.
OH doesn't generally have very much to do with my horse, but he doesn't dislike him and has been known to help me out with hay/livery bills as required :) He visits him on Christmas Day annually to give him a carrot
JR is fab - makes you feel like you can jump the world on anything! Hilarious and very very honest. Best teacher I ever had :) Didn't realise he was still producing horses, that's good to know. Wonder what his daughter is up to now....
Thanks for posting the vid links :) Especially the second one; I scrolled through to unexpectedly come across a video of Warren Point and Milton. I met both of them as a kid and worked for Warren Point's owner during a gap year many years ago...
What's wrong?? Well, where are you going to put the 6 sets of studs per foot for starters?http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/images/icons/icon12.gif
All is not lost - a mexican grackle, a mikmar bit, an abundance of dead sheep and ear nets should do the trick....
I'd doubt a diagnosis of bilateral jugular phlebitis where there's no recent history of IV injections. One-sided phlebitis may occur if for instance an insect bite has caused a local infection which has affected the jugular, but for this to occur on both sides is extremely unlikely. Plus...
