I agree it often doesn't work to cover up the pain but if he did became happy when on bute then you can be fairly certain that there is a pain response. For the worth of a few sachets of bute it would be worth trying in this case. But I certainly wouldn't assume that just because the bute...
Definitely lots of icing to minimize the inflammation at the initial stages. I've had splints rumble on for up to 6 months before. I think the most important thing is not to start back work when the splint is still active. Its needs to be consistently cold and feel solid (like bone) before its...
Paper is the best for my really messy one. Clean it all out every day and just put down enough to soak up the wet. If he will pee in the same place each night it helps alot! He is too messy to leave any in there so no matter how big the bed it would all have to come out every day. Paper is the...
I have a mare who fractured her withers as a 5 year old after rearing up and falling over backwards when refusing to load. She landed withers first onto the ramp of the horsebox and crushed a number of vertebrae. The vet at the time gave her a very poor prognosis and you could physically see...
She is not chestnut but she must think she is :) That's interesting re the teats. I haven't checked her but I will do that tmw. Its good to hear that other mares have problems when in season too. I've had plenty of mares over the years and ones that can be a bit tempermental when in season but...
Thanks for that, hmmm I hadn't really thought that she could be enjoying it ;) But that could actually be it! She certainly doesn't look unhappy when she is doing it! Vet already thinks I am mad. He will really think I'm mad if I suggest that!
Hopefully her display last time out was just...
I've found cornucrescine to be very good in the past for this sort of problem. Again its topical and not a supplement but helps to keep the hooves supple and if applied to the coronet band it supposedly encourages hoof growth too.
Will do, Thanks. My vets provide a worming regime each year which I have been sticking to but I will have a look at the sellotape test too. Worms couldn't really cause the ridden problems though, could they? just to say she looks fantastic and has a great coat, nice weight.
I wonder if anyone has ever seen symptoms like these before. My 5 year old mare has been scratching her hind end for a couple of months now. Its not normal scratching though and she does not appear to be itchy on the outside. Its more like she is pressing her bum into things if you know what I...
If its any help my horse was the same size after a trim and he fits perfectly into size 2's (pink ones!) with the cavallo pads in them. He has round feet (same width as lenght). If you want to use thicker pads maybe you would need to consider going up a size. I think it depends a bit on the...
I had something similar go through my yard this summer. One horse went to the vet for a lameness assessment and picked something nasty up there. Horrible cough, mucus etc. She was scoped and put on antibiotics for ten days. She cleared up after about 6 weeks but it spread to two other horses who...
Thank you :) That is what I am looking for. I hate those saddles with small little panels that are close together. I am sure my horse hates them even more!
Does anyone know how wide the panels are in these? And how far apart they are? As in the width of the gullet? I am thinking of getting the jump version for a very wide and fairly barrel shaped ISH. She has a wide spine so needs nice wide panels. My MW albion K2 sits nicely across the back and...
