Help, can’t catch horse in stable

Thanks for all your replies. I’ve managed to get a field safe headcollar on after managing to hold onto him by his rug and sliding a rope over his neck and working it up his neck slowly. I’ve done a bit of clicker training before with a feral pony so will work on this. Even the feral pony was...

Help, can’t catch horse in stable

I bought a fairly nervous horse about a month ago and up until now all was fairly good although you had to be careful and use lots of bribery to get a headcollar on. The other day I attempted to worm him with a syringe and that did not go to plan and I had to give up. He then became more nervy...

    Strengthening locking stifles (UFP)

He has lived out for the last 4 years and has been in at night for the last 8 weeks. It only started at week 6 when started to be ridden. He now has an area fenced off outside his stable for night time as I don’t want him getting any fatter than he already is. His field is on a bit of a slope...

    Strengthening locking stifles (UFP)

My recently backed 4 year old is showing signs of locking stifle, mainly after stabling, one full lock up and occasional mis steps when turning in a tight space. I understand that as a youngster he has a good chance of strengthening up and growing out of it and that hill work is recommended for...

    Slow developing warmbloods

Thank you. Mine looks similar to yours as a 4 year old. One of my instructors saw him today for the first time in 3 months and was amazed how much stronger he looked so I guess he is improving but as I see him daily I don’t notice the difference so much.

    Slow developing warmbloods

Thanks for everyone's input. Its really useful hearing from others experiences. His training is coming along nicely at the moment and he is definitely progressing along the right lines. Just more slowly than the other youngsters I have brought on.

    Slow developing warmbloods

He is by Royaldik and is very narrow. I’m so used to much more solid types. Last year as a 4 year old he very much looked more like a 3 year old. But I wouldn’t say there has been much improvement now he is 5. Glad to hear others have been slower to mature. I’ll just have to be patient and...

Best Wood Pellet Brand For Extremely Wet Horse?

I’ve used white horse energy platinum plus for many years and have found them super absorbent. I’ve tried cheaper ones but always gone back to White horse as they seem a lot better. I also prefer the lighter colour over others as it makes for a much nicer looking bed. If you haven’t used them...

    Slow developing warmbloods

He’s 16.1 so not that big, but very leggy and very narrow.

    Slow developing warmbloods

I’m just wondering if anyone has experience of very slow developing warmbloods. I bought a 4 year old last year who seemed weak and gangly, just been backed so not in any real work so I wasn’t expecting much strength. He is now just turning 5 and although has gained a little muscle and...

Eosinophilic granulomas (skin bumps) advice/share experiences

Topical treatment didn’t work for my mare. She had probably over 10 varying size lumps on both sides. My vet said it was worst case he had seen and forwarded photos to Liverpool university for further advice.

Eosinophilic granulomas (skin bumps) advice/share experiences

My mare had collagen granulomas all over her saddle area. Firstly the vet told me to ignore them as they were not painful. They gradually got worse. We then tried steroid injections directly into the lumps and whilst they decreased in size they didn’t go completely. Then after another treatment...

Showjumping Help - getting horse to think for himself

I feel your pain. I'm absolutely awful at looking for my stride and if I don't see it then I hook and kill the canter resulting in a rubbish jump and it doesn't matter what the size of the fence is. I've found two things that have helped over the years, firstly put a course of fences out just...

I've had lessons with Tom, he is very good and definitely pushes you and gives you the kick up the bum :)

Lameness investigations, what to try next?

So today I had a second opinion and after some work ups we xrayed the neck. It wasn’t the answer I was looking for but we did get a definitive diagnosis of wobblers caused by a bone spur halfway down her neck. Utterly gutted as there’s nothing that can be done but at least I pushed for...
