Am I too much of a chunky monkey ?

Oh he's a complete sod, but that's what I love about him :D When I said bombproof I was more referring to health and wellbeing, low maintenance etc etc

Plan B would be to find something as bombproof as a Welshie that can carry my errr bulk ! :D

Am I too much of a chunky monkey ?

My daughter has a 14.2 Welsh Sec D gelding. He's a chunky lad (he was a tiny bit underweight when we got him, but not now) , what I want to know is would it be cruel to put my 5'10 16 stone on him ? If so , what would be an acceptable weight ? Thanks

Reluctant to hack out on his own ..

Thank you LL , it's always nice to have someone confirm you're not as nuts as you thought you were :p My outlook is that you start from the ground up. If he's good in hand then he's likely to be good in the saddle. I think I'll get my daughter to do a lot more in hand stuff with him and...

Reluctant to hack out on his own ..

Many thanks for all replies. I have a lot more info that may sway things a little. My daughter went on a hack today with a friend on her mare and made it about 300 yards and he put the brakes on. All attempts to move him on only resulted in him rearing. Her friend who has ridden almost...

A couple of training pointers please

Thanks very much , that's pretty much what the video says. It seemed like good sense, but it's always nice to have it confirmed :D When he's in the stable and I shoo him backwards he turns and walks away to the far side of the stable , he doesn't back up as such. I do try and get my forearm...

A couple of training pointers please

Hi Folks, We've been making great progress with our Sec D gelding (4 yrs ) of late. To recap, he would very often run off whilst being lead in hand, put the brakes on when we wanted to turn him out , barge us through gates and was generally very rude in just about every way possible...

What is your horses stable name?

'Templeview Jack Daniels' or just 'Charlie' to us :)

    A little food advice

Hay is his only forage unfortunately. When he's out the field is pretty much destroyed with all the rain we've had (quagmire) so nothing of any nutritional value on it :(
