    Grief, and jumping confidence

Hi Sprat- I dont really use these forums anymore, but was browsing and felt the need to speak up. I work at Solihull RC, I was the chief xc steward that day and was therefore at the forefront of the tragedy. If you want to speak to someone, please do message me. It's been an awful time for...

    Epileptic dog turned aggressive

My 9 year old jack Russell was diagnosed with epilepsy about 5 years ago. She has since been on daily medication which, on the whole, keep her fits at bay. She did suffer a pretty major fit about 2 months ago whilst out on a walk- it was a busy park which she is used to, but we didnt realise the...

    Sourcing low level/grassroots type eventer

If I were to sell my eventer, who fits your description- ridden by myself (very much an amateur!), decent record at BE100 (never had a xc fault), 9 year old, 16hh, I would advertise her for around the £12k region. She does however have scope to go novice, which is our plan after a couple more...

    Epileptic dog and insurance!

Ignoring the fraud aspect- my JRT is insured with Healthy Pets and is covered for lifelong illness, which means her meds for epilepsy is covered. However, I got her insured when I bought her as a puppy and she developed it at aged 5. If she wasn't insured, I would have just paid for the...

    Why are dressage judges 'anonymous'?

Our venue lists the judges on the times, and on the scoreboard on the day. The judges are no "secret", although bare in mind that even though they tend to be booked months in advance, it can (and often does!) all change up until the day before the competition, so venues may not want to list the...

    Great, but simple, ideas ...

I use a dustpan brush (or you could use one of those brushes you clean the dishes with!) to wash off horses feet without having to get your hands wet- particularly useful in the cold!

    Weekend plans?

I'm at Solihull on Sunday too :) I will be the one on the overgrown pony in the intermediate, competing for SRC. Good luck everyone, have a fab weekend!

    Mud? Or no mud?

We have mud in the gateway as we only have one gate into their 10 acre winter field, so have 3 horses going in/out of the same gateway 4 times a day. Apart from that, we have the least mud we've had in years!

    Buying a horse via auction

*waves* I kinda did. But I knew the seller well (bought my previous horse from them, VERY well respected event horse breeders), and it was more a case of seeing the horse on said auction page, phoning them up, going to see it, making an offer there and then, sellers took it off FB auction page...

    Your horse live report

We got there at 11am and there was no traffic getting there, no queuing to get in either. My top tip is head to Horse Health stand ASAP, amazing bargains on Le Mieux stuff there, but everything was going v quickly and it was super busy, people were like vultures rooting through the bargain...

Horse budget - am I mad?

Ive got the opposite problem- I have the horse you describe (just a bit smaller at 15.2hh) for cheaper than your budget but not getting much interest! advertised her on Horsequest and after the initial flurry of teenagers texting me(!) she dropped down the pages so quickly that her adverts right...

Do you hang on or let go?

Wish I'd hung on my horse when I fell off last year- she proceeded to buggar off at a flat out gallop and jumped a five bar metal gate, which resulted in an expensive vet bill! Learnt my lesson the hard way- don't fall off! 😉

Rule #1 of going to view a horse...

Possibly a contraversial one but... If you weigh in excess of 18 stone, please let the buyer know and ask if the horse is a weight carrying type before coming to try their 15.2hh fine boned sport horse. It just prevents wasting everyone's time..! Had this with my much loved horse I'm...

    2 Acres 3 horses

It's doable, I keep my 2 and a Shetland on the same. This winter hasn't been easy as its been particularly wet, but they've all been able to get some sort of turnout every day even if just for a few hours. Fields are now dry as a bone, harrowed and grass is growing through nicely. We did spend...

New horse vetted today - possible sarcoid??

I wouldn't walk away, but I'd push for more off the price (depending how much horse is/what reduction you've already got). My mare developed a sarcoid looking lump right where her girth goes, and I couldn't ride her without a padded sheepskin girth sleeve and even then it would rub and bleed...
