Teaching a complete novice to ride, where to start!

Why not start with the 3 S's - Stop, Start and Stear. I remember this from when I started. Focus on inside leg to outside hand and slowly work on position. This will help them grasp the basics and get their balance in the saddle while their muscles develop. Then you could try getting your friend...

    What horse feed for TB??

my tb has, and has been for the past 4 years, been fed in adlib hay and a scoop of Dengie morning and night with vitimin supplement. When he's lost condition or been working hard I add basic pony cubes or soya oil to his feed. Its really hard as he heats up on basically anything! We've just...

Does it make me a really rubbish unconfident rider if I never want to jump?

I don't jump and I very rarely hack. I enjoy my horse and spend time doing what I want to do. I would never criticise anybody as long as their horse was happy and healthy. This is meant to be fun and I don't see the fun in forcing myself to do something I don't want to. Life is too short to...

    Grumpy Cranky TB

my ex racer is a very grumpy person, espicially in the mornings. He is so much better in the summer when he is out 24/7, apart from when its wet, or hot, or windy, or there's flies.... Could yours be getting a bit cold? If mine is cold or if I bring him in that little too late, he acts like...

What do you use when your horse has thrush ?

Athletes foot spray! After all, thrush is a fungal infection, as is athletes foot. Also heard baby powder is good for keeping the frogs dry.

I need a plan- my lack of confidence is harming my horse

Don't give up on yourself!!! I would echo the others about getting a confident instructor or friend to ride and handle your horse a bit. Maybe they could do some basic ground work and build up his confidence and show you how to 'fake it'. Never think that you aren't enough for him...

    Relaxing while riding- HELP!

Try shrugging your shoulders and rotating them while you walk. What I find tends to happen is my shoulders lock and cause tension, shrugging them forces you to unlock them.

    Checking saddle serial numbers

Hi, Does anybody know if its possible to check the serial number on a saddle? I recently sold a high withered throrowgood and the lady is arguiing that it is not the high wither version. I am sure it is as I brought it brand new but the problem is proving that. Hoping I have the original...

    Why so many empty seats?

I was there yesterday and people tendered to wander in and out to go for lunch / drinks / walk the XC course. There was a lot to do outside of the arena so you could go watch it for a bit and then go off and stretch your legs. There were quite a few whole blocks which weren't filled though.

please could i have some advise - clentches

I usually stick some over reach boots on to cover it until the farrier can come out. OR as suggested above, put some duct tape over it just to keep it covered.

    Bruised sole?

If you're worried could you get your farrier to come out and check it out? Maybe he got a small puncture wound or abcess.
