hmm could be pain related? what bit is he in? my mare used to hop on the spot and tug at the reins when she was in the school nd my trainor at the time said she was doing it cos the bit was too strong so we moved her to a hanging snaffle (she was in a pelham) and she stopped doing it. I'm not...
aww thats totaly understandable that they would want to keep her in! but its been 5 years so you never know! if you can fence of a bit of field then she ill get to meet some of the mares and give you a better idea of how they are going to get on without doing too much damage to themselves!!
i was at a yard with no grass, hd fields but no quality grass in them - my mare is a good doer and i had to feed her throughout summer just to keep her in condition! keep looking, i was lucky enough to stumble upon my friends yard and theres plenty of grass! dont give up!
yeh she really needs a chance to be a horse! keeping her in a stable isnt natural yet if its all shes known then i guess it isnt too bad! but if its possible to let her kick her feet up and be a horse then go for it!
a week should be ok to let her mee the mares. My mare is quite dismissive too and she is ok, though there isnt so many mares inthe field. Best give it a try and if it turns out well then great! If it doesnt work then at least you tried!
i have never ever seen this be done before and i have been on several different yards. my wee mare can be very strong on the ground and all i need to do is thread the rope over her nose. But i have never seen anything like that before... :/
no i would say that is ok, especially coming into spring you really do not want them too fat! just make sure though that once you have him at a nice wieght that you can maintain it and he doesnt keep losing!!
me and my sister went for a hack up the fields with our horses and pj cantered without bucking!!! and as for cally she was brilliant as usual! she even went into the dam for a swim (she doesnt usually!!). Pj also wanted to come in today without a chase round the field!!! :P
