    Coughing pony...Subestin?

@maya2008 His is bad enough that he coughs every other stride in trot at the moment - although he doesn't ride differently, he's still forward going and keen as usual. How long has your cough taken to recover from? Days/weeks/months? Please not months 🤦‍♀️ we've got so much planned this season...

    Coughing pony...Subestin?

@MiJodsR2BlinkinTite Thanks that's really helpful. Did your pony's cough just start out of the blue? Our pony is 15 and we've had him almost a year without a hint of a cough. Same bedding, same batch of hay, same amount of turnout - nothings changed. Can he just suddenly 'get asthma'? I'm...

    Coughing pony...Subestin?

Daughters Welsh B been coughing. Dry cough, no nasal discharge, no temperature. Still has plenty of energy and is otherwise the picture of health, just coughing! Already on shavings and soaked hay, minimum 7 hours turnout a day. Vet came, thinks it's viral. Lungs clear, no noises on...

This horse never ceases to amaze me...

    Oh that was lovely ??

    Very good doers and muzzles.

My retired NF doesn’t go out on grass full stop between 1st March and 1st November without a muzzle. It’s fine for him but he also stays on the same acre or so all year round so there’s never huge amounts of grass out there anyway. He’s out at night and in during the day in summer but we might...

Are there things your horse just won't do?

My old ISH mare would NOT go through/over a ditch. Nope, never, nada. You could have beaten her black and blue (obviously I never did) and she still wouldn’t have gone. We tried groundwork, following another horse, everything but nope. Ditches just weren’t a thing, shame as she’d jump everything...

What would you fail the vet on?

Very flat feet, will need a full set of shoes plus pads to stop me being crippled in a day

Would you put shoes back on an old horse?

I've put a full set back on my 24yo forester because even walking to and from the field he was uncomfortable. He's back to his old bouncy self with a new lease of life - go for it if that's what he needs :)

    Freelancer with no insurance

I think this is quite a grey area. Most freelance groom insurance will only pay out if the groom is negligent I.e if the groom didn't shut the stable door properly and the horse escaped and injured itself. However if the groom was bringing the horse in, and the horse spooked and galloped off...

Following on from the livery thread...some thoughts

I think I'm probably local to you, are you in Hampshire by any chance?! Totally agree with all you said if it is that particular yard as i used to work there!

If you do decide to sell, NT equine do have an excellent reputation :)

What is your fave picture of your horse?

My then 2 year old daughter taking my old lad out to the field - he can be a total plum at times but gentle as a lamb with her ❤

Would you PTS in this situation?

I was in a similar situation nearly 4 years ago - husband left after having an affair with a much younger colleague. I was a stay at home mum with a 3 year old child, and a 23 year old mare on grass retirement livery When he left, he left me with absolutely nothing, my parents had to step in...

    Freelance stablehand-charges?

agreed - when I take on a new client I ask exactly what's expected and then follow up with a visit to check out the setup i.e yes I can turn out and muck out 5 horses in an hour, but not if the fields are half a mile away or the muck heap is a 10 minute walk. and only after that will i quote -...
