    Separate paddocks?

Luckily my mare started chasing the dog away - went for a walk but found no sign of it so put it on Facebook and owner been found - he says it jumped his fence and he is going to keep a better eye on it. My mare was quite protective of the foals so if I hadn't of intervened and shouted at the...

    Separate paddocks?

Two are colts however had the vet out last week and because they are only 5 months old one hasn't dropped and the other only has one down at the minute. Will keep checking them and as soon as they drop they are getting gelded.

    Separate paddocks?

Two weeks ago I got 3 foals. I also have a 5 year old mare. I have tried to put the foals in one paddock and my mare in the other but the first time they broke down their fence before I put on energiser then broke her out so they could all be together. She is really good with them. Today I...

    New colt in stable

I have had the vet out and she has said one has only one dropped and the other is only just starting to drop so they are not ready yet to be gelded.

Why do horses have rugs on when owners are in t-shirts?

My pony only wore her rug one day last year and that's only because it was heavy sleet. She is a good doer and is a Welsh cob breed who turns into a wooly mamouth in the winter. Other horses at my yard are pretty much rugged all year round - that's their choice and I respect that. If I see a...

    Hi

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum. I've had horses for a few years now but due to the demands of kids I don't get to ride much now. We have a gorgeous sec c mare who is my daughters pony and just become the proud owners of three Welsh d foals.

How old should a kid be to ride out alone

Problem is she doesn't go anywhere on her own. She has never caught a bus on her own - her friends come and call on her and for some reason they all congregate in our street! She used to walk to school alone but it is only 200 m away but now walks with me because I need to take my 5 year old...

How old should a kid be to ride out alone

Arghh you are all making her argument so much stronger - might let her do the short hack route and see how she gets on.

    New colt in stable

I'm phoning the vets tomorrow to get them gelded then they will have to find another excuse for having a naughty horse. Their horse is known to bite people walking past, kicked a few times, won't let others bring their horses in from the field but it's always someone else's fault - drives me...

How old should a kid be to ride out alone

She is almost 11 and is a confident rider. Her pony is an absolute star. There is no road work involved but I still feel she is too young - different if she had another kid with her. I might just follow her from a distance so I'm still there if anything happens. I've tried explaining that if...

How old should a kid be to ride out alone

Just after people's advice. I don't allow my daughter to ride out alone, there is always another rider with her or I walk along with her. Her pony is really safe but I am aware that anything could happen even with the safest of horses and she thinks I'm being mean not just letting her go off...

    New colt in stable

Lol thanks - I'm glad it's not just me that thinks this but no doubt with yard gossip tomorrow it will be that my foals leapt the stable doors, tried to mount their mare then it was them that kicked her lol

    New colt in stable

My two colts arrived today - was told they were 6 months but looking at passports they are just turned 5 months. I put them in stable together and they were quite happy. Someone else at the yard brought her mare in and to be honest my two weren't interested and just continued eating their hay...
