Sycamore I think, we have them sprouting up all over the front and back garden and I'm always plucking them out before they can get more established. The spinning seedlings will fly a long way in the wind in autumn so a tree a decent way away could still manage to spread to your field.
Just a thought for anyone scared of losing a muzzle in the field, maybe stick a cheap GPS tracker on it so you know roughly where to look, although I can imagine the frustration of possibly finding the tag on its own with no muzzle in sight o_O
When I was a kid, one of the liveries at the yard I rode at kept her tack in the stable, high up on a saddle rack and covered up, she was one of the few people whose tack wasn't pinched when thieves got through the roof of the tack rooms and swiped a load of stuff. Might be an option? something...
And after he was so good having that shoe put back on. Poor fella, hope the adrenaline stopped him feeling too much pain before he was PTS. Very sad for all his connections
Oh yes, non-fiction; Pat Smythe's Jump for Joy is a fabulous book. A fascinating insight in to another era of showjumpers and a woman who paved the way for lady riders, and contains some amazing photos :)
Her books certainly are versatile, readable by kids for the horses and then by adults - I've kept all of them to re-read as it's lovely having a weekend immersing yourself in good childhood books isn't it :)
Lol TheOldTrout - we read the first Flambards at high school, looking back they do deal with some adult themes but in a sensible straightforward manner. I love how she writes about relationships, and her horsey and other knowledge make all of her books a pleasure.
I devoured anything by Dick Francis as a teenager, excellent books combining crime and racehorses, my mum had them all and I think I've read pretty much everything he wrote. Tried the one he wrote with his son Felix but wasn't impressed. Jenny Pitman has also written some good books about a lady...
Regarding hanging rugs in stables, a lot of the liveries at my riding school used a long wooden broom handle - drill a hole in each end, thread rope (or bailing twine) through and hang up from ceiling beams so handle lies flush with wall but can be pulled out to slip rugs over. Never knew any...
Feel like I want to add a positive to the negatives lol - coming home from work the other night, there's a stretch of road after a bridle path, quite a busy rural road, then a t-junction with a right turn towards a livery yard and a left turn towards more bridlepaths. There was a young lass on a...
I remember a pony at the stables where I rode as a child, he used to bite so he had a sign on his door which sticks with me to this day (20 odd years ago!) "I snap and I bite, so keep out of sight - PLEASE DO NOT FEED ME" We all used to give him a wide berth! Might be worth OP putting up a sign...
My first reply to a thread ever......hi all. He's soiling that corner for a reason, our male cat used to wee in our bedroom (including on our bed twice!) when he was getting bouts of cystitis. His sister used to poo in the hallway despite there being a litter tray.....took some trial and error...
