    Swollen cheeks?!

Yeah we had really warm dry weather for about 6 days (20ish deg) but then the weather turned on Sunday night and it poured rain all day Monday and the temps dropped quite considerably so I changed her to a warmer rug. It was showery yesterday but not as bad. Monday was her day off so I didnt...

Hi,new here with a few questions

There's soo much more financial issues with owning a horse...vet bills (planned & unplanned), farrier, feed, rugs etc etc  Riding lessons can be expensive so why not go every 2 weeks or have you priced around...some smaller riding schools are much cheaper than larger equestrian...

    Swollen cheeks?!

My 10yo mare has been living out 24/7 for the past 10-12 weeks and I have been riding her off the grass & have had no issues at all until yesterday evening when I brought her in to tack her up and both her cheeks were swollen. Not massively but enough to look as though her throatlash...

    Riding in grass in winter

Hi, I've just built stables at home for my horse and it's been great during the summer having her at home and no more treks to & from the yard :D The weather just about held up enough for me to be able to keep her fit between hacking on the roads and riding/lunging in the paddock (have approx 1...

Lame in Trot - Worse when ridden

When I posted last week Indy was quite lame to ride on soft ground but was fine on hard ground so I rang my vet and gave him this update but he still advised me to keep her in light exercise to see if she would 'ride out of it' or if not then the problem should get worse and then he'd be able to...

Is it true what they say??

I've decided to start my horse on supplements for her joints...as they say prevention is better than cure! Her last owner had her on AfterAce supplement (100% natural) but I've been told that a high % gluco supplement would be just as good. I did some research on both and AfterAce almost sounds...

Lame in Trot - Worse when ridden

Thanks! When she was at the vets 2 wks ago they told me the problem was in her foot because when they nerve blocked she was sound, then x-rayed which were clear. However they didnt mention anything about soft tissue damage...seems like they should have at least considered it. I might give them a...

Lame in Trot - Worse when ridden

Update! I went home last week with the intention of putting a poultice on but her foot was stone cold! There's been no heat in it at all in the past 6 days. The vet had advised that I keep her in light work so I hacked her on the roads on Thursday and Saturday and she was sound...she trotted...

Lame in Trot - Worse when ridden

Thanks! Initially my farrier thought there was no point poulticing as he didnt think there was anything to draw out. Now that there's some heat in the foot though I'll get him to have another look at her (he last checked her 2 days ago) and will say it to him again about poulticing...will let...

Lame in Trot - Worse when ridden

My horse Indy has been lame for 3 weeks now. She's stabled at my farriers yard (my husbands uncle :)) so I got him to have a look at her as soon as I noticed it. She looked a bit off so he had a look but didnt think there was anything in her foot. I gave a her a few days rest but after 4 days...
