Hi, my older cob is not dropping weight as much as I would like this winter. I have done all the usual things - smaller nets when in, I will resume soaking his hay (was soaked in summer), token feed of Fast Fibre to carry joint supplements, trace clipped and just in a rainsheet to stay clean. He...
I have a fat cob who was fully clipped a month ago and isn't rugged. He's totally fine, even in a windy field. Don't worry about the temperatures, in my experience they only need a lw rug if it's due to rain.
Me too - have perservered with my mare for 6 years since she was a newly broken youngster, she's got sharper and cleverer, bigger and stronger. She's okay when in harder work in the summer but difficult in late winter and spring. Just moved yards with her and my older horse and she has been a...
First few hairs on my very fluffy cob round about Christmas/New Year (we don't really get cold winters in Cornwall), now coming out in barrow loads. My IDx has joined in too with lovely summer coat peeping through on the clipped bits.
Currently trying it with my 9yo mare. She has always been squealy and vocal, and easily distracted. We're in Cornwall and it tends to be quite mild all winter without a real 'winter' break (horses tend to start shedding coats late Dec, early Jan) and it seems as though the mares only have a...
For those of you who have gradually trained your more concerned horses, how did you go about building up their confidence to address the issue? I'd love to hear what worked best for yours if you're happy to share (hope this is okay OP! Sorry to jump on thread!)
Today. An hour and threequarters hack in the pouring rain, gale force winds and freezing cold. Actually felt sorry for the poor horses but I try to get a longer ride in at weekends as I work in the week. Have just moved yards and trying to keep the horses in a routine as they are better ticking...
I'm in the process of moving yards and am taking the opportunity to break the cycle of leg mites in my cob (horse is treated regularly if showing symptoms, but I am concious that they can lurk in stables/bedding/grooming brushes/pasture etc). Therefore I am going to give another treatment of...
Thanks, was hoping to avoid bandages as prefer wraps, less chance of things going wrong - I do have magnetic brushing boots so might pop those on. Just have to say that your post made me go all goose pimpley - my fantastic old boy who I lost in Sept after 12 great years was shown under the name...
Hi - can anyone give me any recommendations to prevent legs filling in the stable overnight? My 15.2 7yr old cob is in overnight from 6pm to 8am and his hind legs are filling at night (not fronts). He normally is out 24/7 but has been coming in at night for the last 6 weeks as his field...
