    Sheep and horses

I have Soay sheep and would say they are fairly easy, but as they age their fleece doesn’t shed on its own - we’ve had to round them up and shear them. They do a fab job of neatly trimming and fertilising grazing. Re fencing, mine are very respectful but will jump if they can clear the...

    Signing out of food chain

I did but the lady hadn’t registered her with a vets and she wasn’t vaccinated so she said. She had only owned her for 18 months - he teenage daughter had ridden/competed and outgrown her. This is what I was told and it seemed quite plausible in that she had obviously been bought to sell. She...

    Signing out of food chain

Ok thank you be positive. I was suspicious as she’s now lame and I wondered if she’d had her hocks injected for example. Perhaps I’m giving it too much thought

    Signing out of food chain

Can anyone advise? Bought a horse in may and on receiving her passport there was a post it note on the page saying please could you sign horse out of the food chain and get a vet to endorse. I did, because regardless of anything I’d rather my horse wasn’t eaten! However, I’m puzzled as...

    Vetting or not

Thanks for the replies everyone. I don’t think I will have her vetted having considered things. When I tried her she was nicely forward and kept trying to take me over jumps that were in the field I rode her in, I hacked her out today and she was forward and lovely. My horses are at home...

    Vetting or not

Good point. Farrier is here Monday to do her feet so will ask him to watch her trot up and could always get my vet out to see eyes and heart

    Vetting or not

All good points. Tbh I have my own land so livery isn’t a problem. She’s a hardy breed and I have a couple of friends who can judge lameness well. One is a horse chiropractor/physio.

    Vetting or not

She’s £1250 and trial is for a few weeks/loose arrangement. I’m inclined not to bother and obviously won’t do a 5 stage due to her value

    Vetting or not

Hi all. Not posted in a while, so hello again 😊 New horse on trial, bought for hacking and maybe 2 sponsored rides per summer. She’s 16 yo, Arab. Seems sound and sane. Legs and feet look even and clean. Would you have vetting done?

Urgently need advise about young horse

Thanks again for replies, you lot have been reassuring. Gloi I plan to start some long reining and have my instructor to help. Going to get her vet checked first after chilling over Christmas. She came from Holland to a SJ rider/dealer where I bought her 6 weeks later. Given she’s had a foal...

Urgently need advise about young horse

Really appreciate all the posts and suggestions. I’ve taken the advice of my instructor/behaviourist and am going to get her vet checked. As she kicks out in the field at seemingly nothing as well and has done it once when I’ve been riding her, I think she’s either in pain or scared of being...

Urgently need advise about young horse

Ester she’s geberally reactive around her back end - if a wet rug drags over her bum she panics, my Farrier’s dog ran past her bum and she kicked ouT, I just find ways to avoid or manage it, gentle exposure etc. Thanks for reply

Urgently need advise about young horse

JGC I’ve wondered about the alfalfa and perhaps will just steer clear and see if she cheers up!! I took her off Valarian A’s whilst the buuilding work is still going on I don’t really want her to be on it. She is in general a peaceful Horse. Thanks for reply and suggestions. I’ve not had a...

Urgently need advise about young horse

Girl Friday - we get on brilliantly generally, there’s a lot of trust there generally, she’s good to school, has improved being handled and being hacked out. I could expect better in 6 months and you’re right about the motorway bridge, that was wishful thinking and I can be a bit ‘tally ho...

Urgently need advise about young horse

Good plan - thank you. I do this when riding and she s not done this whilst I’ve been riding her, I was leading her today. I shouldn’t have taken her out on wet roads, it’s just so difficult in the winter, isn’t it?! Thanks for reply
