What has changed? Are you working the same number of hours? Just different shift pattern? I'm just thinking cause I know a lot of people who work some really odd shift patterns eg. 10pm - 6am they just adjust their horsey schedule to match. For example morning check is now after work, then they...
I'd almost 100% agree with Red-1. Except I'd extend point 1 to be safety of me or the horse.
Pretty much I'm very easy going. It's not my horse so unless what's happening violates either of those rules then I'll do as they owner does. It's not to say I don't have my own ideas or opinions, I...
Id definitely have no problems using a camera. And locking the bin is definitely the route I'd go down unless you want to catch the person and ask for money back towards the missing feed.
Aside from that, I'm just musing outloud but if there anything horse safe that you can add to the feed that...
I've just compared beginning of the ride to the end of the ride. The saddle has slipped forwards by a good couple of inches. And I've noticed from the video I was almost compensating by sitting further back in the saddle.
So next question - why do saddles slip forwards and is there anything I...
Good question. I didn't see a noticeable problem but I'll see if I can get a still from the beginning of the ride vs the end and see if there is a difference. :)
Nope, she's a Fell.
I don't think it was anything lateral. I had wondered if she was really off balance or something at the time so I specifically asked her to go very straight down the long side of the school, expecting it might ease off but it was still exactly the same. And very even...
Nope, definitely the correct diagonal at all times. I'd describe being on the wrong diagonal as uncomfortable, but certainly nothing like this. This was like someone pushing one of your lower legs back on each stride. I can't think of another way to describe it.
Hoping for some help here.
I was riding my loan horse earlier today and I've never felt a trot quite like today on any horse. Her trot itself was fine (I have video and can see she was moving fine).
But if I was to describe it I'd say that it felt as though my legs were being pushed...
I suffer hugely with confidence since I had a reasonably severe accident last year.
Do you find there are any other situations that make you worry? Or just hacking? I've found one thing that really really helps me, and that's to literally take things at my own pace. I don't think you need a...
It's so true.
Whether it's a riding school horse, a loan horse or a horse you own. I see a lot of people beating themselves up and telling themselves they just need to get on with it.
I just thought I'd drop a little post in here for all those who suffer with nerves / confidence issues, there is light at the end of the tunnel!
I broke my back (compression fracture to L1) after being thrown from a horse in September last year. I've been back in the saddle since December and...
I ride a mare who seems to have been in season for almost 4 weeks now. She squirts / sprays really regularly. For example yesterday I was getting her ready to ride and in about 20minutes of being fussed over she'd squirted 3 times.
I've also noticed she's especially prone to doing it if I...
I've had another thought too. Is there any chance you have access go a good horse trainer that can come out to you and perhaps train the behaviour out of her. Hopefully wouldn't cost as much as £300 but again... could take longer than QuitKick.
If you're Nottinghamshire / South Yorkshire /...
If you were to compare where you were and her routine to where you are now and her routine. What's changed?
Turnout? Size of stable? Entertainment in the stable?
I know you probably need a quick fix so I'm not trying to rule that out. But if she didn't do it before and does do it now then...
The fact this sounds like newish behaviour makes me think that something has changed in the owners life.
I'd definitely have a conversation with her, ask her if she'd like you to terminate your arrangement and take it from there. Best case she explains whatever has been going on to cause the...
