    Sand for turnout??

lol if I hauled out the sand, i'd rather it just be grass again! Otherwise I'm gonna spend alot more in feeding hay, my guys pretty much live out.

    Sand for turnout??

Yea I would probably end up getting a hay feeder that would keep it well off the ground if I kept the sand. Thanks!

    Sand for turnout??

So I'm looking at farms to buy, there's not too many to pick from in my price range. The one place I went to look at the other day had a sand riding ring for the horses' turnout. It was large enough, but the sand part kind of freaks me out. Anyone else done this?? I'm concerned about sand colic...

    Myler snaffle

It depends on the horse, but my one has done wonderful in the Mylers. He absolutely hates any bits with a single joint, so he has done well in the mylers, no pulling or chomping constantly.

    Tense horse - help!

Alot of people swear by the supplements with Magnesium and Vitamin B in them. I had my horse on mag. for about a year when we were in a particularly "hypy"/excitable phase cross country. I do think it helped him to focus more and be less spooky, but I saw more consistency just with regular...

when a new horse arrives - into stable or out to field?

I have the opposite experience, with my two I've put them in the barn at first to let them chill and see the envt. and then pop them in a paddock by themselves for the first day. Unfortunately, I had a bad experience where I put mine out with a horse he was with before, assuming it would be as...

    Nerves!!!

^ i've done this lol. I have a 14 y/o tb that i've had since he was 3, has always been a very difficult horse to ride , very spooky at times. In order to hack out, we had to ride past cows (horrifying, horse eating cows!!!) and I would get nervous and so would he. My friend would make me sing...

horse choke... what did u do.

My tb had a choking episode last year (first time), scared the crap out of me. He had what I think was a carrot stuck, took a lot of ace to sedate him and a lot of walking around and gently messaging to get it down. Took about 4 hrs plus me being a worry wart and spending half the night in the...

    Show names?

When I bought my TB they called him "Personality Plus".....that was gone Fast and he's back to his paper name, Dancing Aye.

Which side does your horses mane fall on?

My TB's lower half goes to the Right, the upper half to the Left. After 12 years I've just about given up! I still attempt to get it all to the right but it's usually not very successful

    are your horses insured?

When I hunted my horse weekly I had him insured, but not now because we mostly just hack out anymore. It was definitely worth it at the time though.

    Wet droppings

My guy is only 14, but I actually put him on a senior feed as well, it's beet pulp based and low molasses/sugar content, he's been good since being on it. Otherwise he had the runs PLUS acting like a maniac with the high sugar feeds! what is c & c comprised of out of curiousity?

We were big and brave today!

Congrats! It's such a good feeling when you work up the courage and do that, esp when your horse is a little skittish. Start short and work your way up!
