I agree with @ihatework but I think I would wait for the ground to be better to work on the leading out work if you don't have a yard or secure area with good footing to work with them in.
Is it really manky?
I had a beef farmer take some round hay bales I was going to burn. Just round wrapped bales that had got damaged and weren't good enough for the horses. I thought it was to far gone for anything but he was quie grateful for it.

You'll get through it. And it gives you an idea of what parts to graze and what parts to save over the summer.
I took mine on in early spring g and it was covered in ragwort. I had pulling parties every week for about 6 weeks to clear each paddock. I provided bbq and beer and people were more...
Totally feel your pain. It's bloody hard work this time of year, especially when your not set up ready for winter.

I grew up on a yard backing and schooling ponies along side the stud and show side of things. It was a very methodical set out routine that every horse or pony would go through the same pattern and the process usually took 4 to 6 weeks. This gave the owner a green pony able to walk trot and...
My older gelding is prone to 're-introducing' himself to his field mates when they have a rug change or when rugs go on for the first time in autumn. I bought him a second hand rug for autumn last year and the 2 younger geldings were all over him. He's a bit of a nervous nelly so having his rug...
I felt very smug when my friend 'who knows everything' had not heard of hot clothing when I suggested she hot cloth rather than bath for a winter show. I gleefully gave her a demonstration when she asked how it was done 😜
Can you build a small pen/coral by the gate that you can send him into? Then make sure he only goes in there for something nice (a bucket feed, a good scratch, whatever is his favourite thing - usually food with a native). you need to make 'you' (and for now the pen) the best place to be in his...
