Does anyone meet their children from school with the childs pony

My dad used to walk my pony down for me to ride home from primary school on a Friday afternoon. Remember getting changed into my riding stuff at high speed in the toilets and coming out to find an adoring swarm around my devil of a welshie and feeling like the absolute bees knees as I rode away...

And they say horses are stupid!

An old pony of mine recognised certain cars. Her field was alongside a main road and she would spot us driving past, and wait until we had pulled into the yard (out of her sight), gotten out and when she heard the door slam, she would neigh. And be waiting at the gate by the time we got to it...

    Iveco lorries? Your experiences please!

Know of a 10 plate iveco which has had nothing but trouble... Constantly broken down because of electrical faults. Funnily enough this is also an equitrek. Can't comment on the older ones, imagine this one would run quite well if it wasn't ruled by modern sensors etc.

Trailer or lorry? Best way to have own transport.

I have a nice economical car paid for by car allowance from work. And an old tank of a discovery which is the "horse truck" which tows and gets smelly. My family already owned the trailer so this was the easiest way to go for me. If I had a bit more cash spare I would seriously consider...

    Saddles...which do you love?

Love my Ideal Patriot for jumping. Have a real soft spot for Albions. Coveting a Sue Carson dressage but can't justify the price at the moment.

    Prolite girths

Definitely ask him. We wouldn't have bought the prolite without having the saddler recommending and letting us trial it :)

    Prolite girths

Fingers crossed it is easily sorted. With regards to rubbing, lemieux make a lambskin girth cover shaped especially for the fairfax/prolite girth so that is an option. Ours has softened up with time though and is not an issue on our horse. I imagine the leather fairfax one would not rub like...

    Towing test - after 1997!

Cost me about £600 all in, did five hours training in one day and then another hour before the test the following morning. Spent a lot of time shunting a truck and trailer around the yard to figure out the reversing a little bit beforehand so I wasn't completely new to it.

    Mounting block.

I was actually taught this too :) However I didn't like it, I found it a faff trying to rotate and would stick my toe into the horse's side as I turned around. Perhaps with practise it would have become more natural! I never did though. Much like I never adjust my stirrups with my feet in them -...

    Mounting block.

Agree with this. Quite often I will mount from the offside as I think it's a useful thing for a horse and rider to be able to do.

    Prolite girths

Ours is a short girth that goes on a monoflap jumping saddle, £89 from the saddler but it was her that recommended it and tried it as part of her saddle fitting service. She also advised that the girth we had on him was too long and was allowing the long girth straps to move forwards, therefore...

    Prolite girths

Have one on a big shouldered WB who has a very forward girth groove. It was getting to the point where you had to get off and move the saddle everytime you cantered. Saddler put a wee bit more flock in front (new saddle so had settled very quickly), put on a prolite girth and hey presto saddle...

    Mounting block.

Fair enough. Are you/do you have anyone who is good at DIY? I think it would be fairly easy to build something sturdy, and much cheaper. There was one made from lengths of decking at a previous yard which was fabulous.

    Mounting block.

Stack of wooden pallets. Stack of milk crates. Both can be a little wobbly but perfectly adequate for us :D

Why cannot people take decent photos

That colt :O :O :O Good grief. Even in relatively decent photos it's hard to tell conformation etc because the horse isn't stood up properly or because it is wearing a saddle etc. It's so frustrating.
