Who's raised, backed & produced their own horse from a yearling?

Yes, only because I viewed over 20 horses and had three not pass a second stage vetting so I had wasted a lot of money and time and had to compromise somewhere. However I was very lucky and he proved to be the easiest youngster to handle and back. I did have experienced help on hand to help me...

    Broken leg

Bad news unfortunately, my dog wouldn't weight bear on his leg this morning and it looked more swollen so whipped him to the vet (not the specialist). She thinks the pin has in fact moved and he needs an xray with the plan to most probably remove the metal work by the specialist when he's back...

    Broken leg

How old is she? My boy is 7 years old and used to tear around but sadly I don't think he ever will after this break.

    Broken leg

Wow! That is impressive and what a horrible break! My worry is that the rods have moved but I'm not a trained vet and they believe it's fine and not to worry. That's lovely yours will still have a good run around! :)

    Broken leg

Thank you for all your replies. At the moment he appears happy and pain free (although he has a very high pain threshold, vet was shocked at how he coped with his broken leg when he was first admitted) so we might just see how he progresses with the hydrotherapy. We have been told he will...

    Broken leg

Thanks Sarah. His leg is quite big in comparison to his other one and we were told this was due to the amount of metal work around the hock joint. A friend is a hydrotherapist and asked if the metal work would be removed. It's been such a long recovery process the other dilemma is whether to put...

    Broken leg

My poor boy broke his leg nearly three months ago after my pony stamped on him. He was operated by an orthopaedic specialist and his leg was pinned as he broke two bones in his hock near the joint, one of which was a very small bit of bone held by a pin so he was on strict crate rest for 8...

    Wolf teeth

Interested in this as my youngster has very small wolf teeth and I was debating leaving them alone but he has a tendency to lean on one rein. A friend's pony had her wolf teeth filed down by an EDT as it wasn't severe enough to warrant being removed so by filing it down made sure it didn't...

    Tarpaulin cover for horsebox

I'd love to but I don't think my yard manager will pay to get it cut down!

    Tarpaulin cover for horsebox

What does everyone use to cover their Horseboxes? Mine is unfortunately kept under a tree at my yard and it has accumulated so much debris that when we took it to the garage recently it was all under the bonnet! Would a heavy duty sheet kept in place with bungee cords work? Thanks :)

    Highlands and other natives

There is currently a fjord that is looking for a loan home on Facebook and he is 14.2hh, 5 year old. PM me if you're interested. I was considering a highland but couldn't get up to Scotland but found a fjord for sale near London. My boy is 14hh and takes up a lot of your leg, (he was sent away...

Do wood pellets always go brown?

I used Five Star bedding then switched to Woodlets and noticed the Woodlets went brown far quicker than the five star. I found the five star stayed whiter for longer but I think all wood pellet bedding goes brown to a certain degree. It is different to having a white bed of shavings!

    Ariat Volants - fit

Yes I would order a smaller size. I have a pair of narrows which initially were very tight but have stretched with time and use. I love my volants and want to get another pair as a spare as they are so comfy to ride in!

Cantering young horses in a school.

This ^^ My rising 5 year old is terribly unbalanced and cantering in the school he rushes and can career around corners! BUT he is a totally different horse cantering out in fields as it's a straight line and he can balance himself much better. In the school we stick with walk and trot, some...
