    Rugging Mares and Foals

I wouldn't rug a mare with foal at foot in a million years! Its just not safe! If the foal really needed a rug dog rugs wuth velco work best when theybare very young. They fit snug so not really any chance of getting legs stuck. Saying that we breed shetlands so wouldnt need a rug 😂

Following on from 'dying breed' - are we all competing less?

Ive only been out once so far this year. The judges just arent coming up for me. Plus I have 2 rounds of probationing to do, I am doing one under a judge I would normally show under and its because I respect them and value their opinion that I am forsaking showing for a valuable learning...

    Are we a dying breed

For Shetlands, Welsh and Dartmoors you go to an assessment day. If you get through that you spend 2 years probationing and do 2 shows each year as a probationer. If your reports come back good you go onto an intermediate panel for a few years so you can judge anything but Hoys classes and Royal...

    Are we a dying breed

I wont tollerate badly behaved ponies. High spirits fine but not bad behaviour. They get the chance to stand at the end of the line by themselves. If they still don't behave then I have no qualms about sending them out -especially stallions! Imo stallions should be the best behaved of the bunch...

The pony quest continues - short tail eaten by a foal?! Hair Extenions?

Yeah no additions to M&M's - they should be left natural 😂😂😂 except for the Welsh, Connies and New Forests who get pulled, plucked and preened to within an inch of their lives 😂😂😂

That are completely against all showing and breed societies rules - except for at HOYS where they have their own rules ;) Your false tail can fall out in the ring and the steward parade around with it on their heads for all they care ;)

    Are we a dying breed

A lot of judges don't mind being asked after the class out of the ring but you might need to prompt them as to what horse you had! They will have seen many that day! I only offer feedback if I feel the person is likely to be receptive of it. Otherwise a simple "Well Done" is all you are getting...

    Are we a dying breed

They did a Clapometer class - I can't remember whether it was BSPS or PUK - that went down like a lead baloon! The favourites didn't win because half the people got decked when a sudden mass of cheering and screaming started! The horse/pony with the highest decible count that stayed intact won...

The pony quest continues - short tail eaten by a foal?! Hair Extenions?

Yeah that looks chewed. It will grow back. If I wanted to show now I would neaten the edges. It looks plenty thick enough so feathering it like a Welsh D's - but not taking any length off - would probably be the way to go. Keep on top of it for the rest of summer - neaten but not shorten - and...

    Are we a dying breed

If everyone in the ring asked for the judges opinion/advice/feedback you would never leave the ring! Dressage takes 2 seconds to write on a piece of paper. Most judges don't mind being asked but many wont offer feedback because they are afraid the person will go off their rocker and call them...

    Are we a dying breed

But you know what you need to work on and come back out bigger and better next time! There is nothing nicer than sitting on a well schooled horse when you least expect it!
