Horse now seeming to feel the cold?

I have booked a cushings test for next week as I won't feel happy if I don't get him checked. It is very odd weather lately and seems to switch quickly between horrid and rather lovely and sunny so quite tricky to feel sure I'm getting it right! Hopefully the test will clarify things.

Horse now seeming to feel the cold?

Sounds like I need to book a test!! I didn't realise that was a symptom.

Horse now seeming to feel the cold?

Yes, I should have added he's seen twice a day and I get messages every day from the lady I share duties with, and the property he's on the family keep an eye out too.

Horse now seeming to feel the cold?

I've only really got experience of looking after my one horse and he's always been bombproof in terms of not needing to be rugged etc as he's a hardy, decent build 22 yr old 16h shire cross. He's increasingly seeming to feel the cold over the last couple of years but esp last 12 months - is...

    Balancer supplement or not?

My horse - arthritic 22 yr old shire cross, so big shouldered and heavy, has lost weight he needed to and looks about right now. He's out at grass 24/7 with one other. Occasionally taken out for a potter. Fed morning and evening. Been feeding him Dengie Alfa A Molasses free chaff (amount...

Diet for senior horse that lives out

I have a 22 yr old shire cross. He's 16 hands, usually a good doer. Vet has said he has start of arthritis on top of some existing old ligament issues and side bone so he is not in work as such but vet said some more movement/exercise would be good - guided by his reaction to it, just in walk...

I've just moved my horse to the area and just wanted to check if people had any recommendations for equine podiatrists / trimmers that are near Canterbury ? Thank you :)

Decent Transporters with larger vehicles in Kent/Beds area.

Any recommendations for transporters in the south - In the process of moving my boy from Cumbria to Kent he's been in Bedfordshire with a friend till I could find somewhere for him where I live near Canterbury which I finally have, but now need to get him there - he came down in a nice big lorry...

Heavyweight combo rugs for horses with big shoulders

My shire x needs a new heavyweight - any suggestions - it needs to be a combo and heavyweight because of the lovely Cumbrian weather - and although he only needs a 6ft9 but also accommodate his rather large shoulders - so am thinking he would be better off with side gussets in the shoulder area...

What weight could an unfit 16h shire x horse carry?

Thanks for all your input! When I next manage to see him I'll have another look at his feet and see what they look like now. He does definitely seem to have massively changed in size between when he went lame and stopped being worked and when I arrived on the scene about 3 years later - I...

What weight could an unfit 16h shire x horse carry?

The photos of his hooves was a while back, he's def not had lami and nothing to bruise them - is it the colour that makes them look like this? They've been great with no shoes and he's not had any signs of being foot sore etc... He's usually had the farrier wherever he was give him a trim, but...

What weight could an unfit 16h shire x horse carry?

Sorry - yes I didn't mean to imply I thought weight of rider caused his lameness or sidebone - merely that the weight of the rider along with being asked to do too much couldn't have helped his pain and would have probably encouraged him to buck - my other half once decided to eject himself last...

What weight could an unfit 16h shire x horse carry?

He's had a farrier and an equine podiatrist and they've all universally complimented him on his excellent feet - saying he has good quality hoof and he has been on pink powder senior and various other mineral supplements through the years. I'm not saying his lameness was caused by heavy riders...

What weight could an unfit 16h shire x horse carry?

These are the best shots I have of his feet - am curious at them being called interesting, so would love to know why! :D He was bought by my other half in Ireland at about 4 years old I think - his original lameness began in 2004 with sidebone when he was 5 years old - not uncommon given his...

What weight could an unfit 16h shire x horse carry?

No idea if the above image will work - if not - please tell me how to upload pics successfully! I can only speculate that was why his lameness increased in the past, as he used to try and buck his riders before he was diagnoses and put on rest and remedial shoeing - he's barefoot now - but...
