Considerations when buying a horse with sweet itch?

Completely agree. I wouldn't take on any horse with known medical issues as there are so many healthy horses out there which would fit. I knew a SI pony who was so itchy to the point of aggression. You'd also have to think about the insurance and whether the horse would be covered as has a...

    Shoe removal cost at vets...£160!!

I would definitely ring and query it. That is extortionate and I'm sure if you could have had your own farrier in had they asked. This charge will all become part of your claim total and it should you get to the top of your limit for the condition you'll be expected to pay the balance over.

    Scentwork training

I've signed up. Am looking forward to it. I do keep my little lad busy. He does obedience every Saturday, can now start small jumps at agility as he's just turned 1 and the scent work too.

    Scentwork training

Sounds great, I like that it will give him an outlet for natural instinct. Training wise I would say we were at mid-level obedience. Working on retrieve at the moment. Is it easy to start it if my dog isn't particularly toy/treat orientated?

    Scentwork training

My dog club is starting a scent work course next month which sounds quite interesting. I'm thinking if it's worthwhile doing it. Anyone else done this? Why did you do it and what benefits did your dog get from it?

    Bells on cats

I don't have bells on my cats collars. I read cats have such sensitive hearing that they can hear electrical current so I can imagine what it must be like for them with a bell which is so close to their ears. I have a hunter but she only catches and brings in frogs!

    Elderly cat driving us mad...

When my cats blood pressure was done they took her in early in the morning, put her in a room upstairs for a few hours to calm her and took it then.

    Elderly cat driving us mad...

Agree with everything Beckyflowers says above. My old girl became more vocal in later life, she had kidney disease, hyperthyroidism and high blood pressure. It was the thyroid which made her vocal according to the vet. Hyperthyroidism makes them very hungry most of the time. I would get your...

    Vaccinated and un vaccinated pups

I follow a group on Facebook about Natural Care for Animals. This morning there was a post about a kitten which said "she's just arrived, she's not vaccinated which is great" I've seen a friend's cat die from Feline Leukaemia, how is not vaccinating a kitten a good idea? I rolled my eyes at...

    Vaccinated and un vaccinated pups

i know that as my cat reached old old age I didn't vaccinate. I asked the vet and she said that she had had enough and that disease was unlikely. I've read a little about the titre test. Would need to read up more to form an opinion on it. Would it not be like with horses, if you couldn't...
