I am actually a BHS county chairman and is why I asked ;-) Nowhere in the good old Manual of Equitation does it advocate 'giving it a good kick' as the aid to canter! Heck if I kicked one of my horses I wouldn't be seen this side of Timbuctoo!
Zoon, you sound to me to be on the right track-...
Years ago, when I was a youngster, serge was far more common than leather linings, also linen was popular, and still is in the old style hunting saddles favoured by some older showing riders, and also side saddles.
Even with weak legs, you feel that 'a good kick' is the answer? I wonder how Lee Pearson manages, riding horses to Grand Prix, with withered legs that will not even bear his weight without crutches.
No worries, I won't be offering advice again. You clearly know best ;-)
Absolutely, I showed in serge panel saddles by the same makers on a cob and riding horse, and also an Anglo Arab, the latter winning reserve national champion!
When you say 'seat aids', and them not being strong enough, what do you mean zoon?
Lizziegoos, why would you want to give your horse a good kick when in canter? Kicking a horse makes him board up the ribcage and prevents the back from swinging/lifting and the hindlegs from stepping under...
I have been using clicker training for years- training classical dressage. We dont use a clicker under saddle, but a tongue 'clock' noise, rather than the sort of tongue click you use to encourage forwards movement.
I have found that positive reinforcement in this way, turns round difficult...
Is the saddler ensuring that the saddle is fully rebalanced when altering the gullet plate? I know you said it was reflocked, but each time a gullet plate is change, the rest of the saddle needs to be adjusted too- I see so many where just a gullet plate is changed and nothing else. Is the...
Even had they paid, which you can, as I know the CRC did to become an affiliate, the BHS I should have thought, would not wish to be allied to people who treat horses in this way.
Re the logo, I am certain had the BHS run a competition amongst the 70,000 members to design a logo, it would...
Yes it does say 'the BHS is teaming up with Parelli'- it is not a paid advertisement, but the advert will have been given FOC in lieu of the three pairs of tickets for the competition.
Not a bad swap for tickets worth about £600, when a full page ad is £2000 plus VAT, and the kudos of having...
Yes I emailed Graham Cory and Dave Prince, but no reply as yet. My RDO has replied, but to me in my capacity as a county chairman. I think she feels that the BHS is damned if they do, and damned if they dont.
I still dont agree- the figureheads of any organisation that the BHS promotes, at...
It is definitely a BHS promotion, not a paid advertisement, Francis. As it states 'The BHS is teaming up with Parelli to offer tickets...'. If an advertisement, it always states at the top of the page. In any case, a full page ad is £2000 plus VAT, a drop in the bucket to the Parellis!
I am...
I couldnt recommend Pure more highly. It has been a godsend for my Lusitano who suffered from gastric ulcers, and also two of my older horses with metabolic problems. All look extremely well on it, eat it readily, unlike some other fibre based feeds, and keep excellent topline.
I am sponsored...
