If anyone wants a cheaper option without building it yourself, I had one of these. Works really well. Yes, it is just a wheelie bin with a wallpaper steamer attached - but I haven't got the knowledge to put my own together, and hubby hasn't got the time...
I am amazed at all the fuss being created over this. I have only received positive comments regarding my Polite tabard - from pedestrians and car/van/lorry/tractor drivers. All say that at first glance it looks like police, just like the Motorway Maintenance vehicles which everyone slows down...
Apart from upping the exercise - how about some Horse Agility to keep his brain working, longreining, free schooling, walking out inhand, find someone locally light enough to ride him - you can't do much else.
However, I would not restrict his forage. Ab-lib has been proven to be the best...
I feed straw in a round feeder (large bales), and hay in a 'Hay Hutch' out on the ponies' hardstanding area. If it isn't windy, then I just scatter the hay out in piles - so they have to move around. However, at the moment it seems to be windy all the time!
You cannot go wrong with a Libra Trec (look on Ebay). I am just about to buy my 4th - my first one is tatty after over 4 years of regular use, so replacing it with a new brown one. The other 2 went with ponies who went out on loan. Everyone finds them comfy, well made and hardwearing. They...
Towing Vehicle - Subaru Outback (56 reg), 3 litre petrol automatic - 9/10 as a towing vehicle - would get 10, but very thirsty on fuel. Fantastic power, comfort and turning circle. Heated leather seats, which are wonderful when you are cold after a ride!

There seem to be several really good riding Exmoors looking for new homes at the moment. Let me know if anyone is interested and I can give you more details. They are wonderful ponies.
I rode a 11.2hh Sec A (very fit and had a good ribcage on him!) for long pleasure rides over all terrain. I am 5'5" and just over 9 stone. So a 12.2hh would definitely take 10 stone happily. However, does depend on how the rider 'rides'.
I have a 12.2hh Exmoor mare. Frayne is built like a tank and looks taller, and definitely takes my leg well (I am 5'5" and around 9 stone). I also used to ride a 11.2hh Sec A - a chunky old-fashioned type - who didn't even know I was on him (pulled my arms out on rides and could go all day)...
I don't have a bad back, per se, but I do have Fibromyalgia and Hyper-Mobility Syndrome, which give me constant pain and mean that I have to watch what I do.
As like so many others, I have had to restrict what riding I do, the sort of pony I can ride (no more sparky Welshies or Arabs!) and...
This has made me cry, as I remember all the good friends that I have lost over the years. You never forget. Sounds like he had a wonderful life with you, which will be a comfort as time passes.
I have only recently started using stables again (as our usual large cattle shed has been taken over by the cows!), and I have put down rubber mats at the back with a small bed of Easibed. Literally just one bale in each stable, and this lasts for a while. I pick out the droppings and any...
