any remedies/recipes for a tense horse at shows? OR... any high calorie recipes for putting on weight on a poor doer?

I have a horse who has been competing in shows for a long time and is now 16. However he is increasingly getting more and more tense at shows. Before stopping showing completly with him (which I might have to do if he really doesn't get any better), I would like to try various techniques...

well, yes it would be nice, but he isn't listening to my body language and when i talk his ears don't flicker im my direction. ok... perhaps i'm just being fussy! i just notice the difference compared to the others

when i am leading my horse he completely ignores me, just plods along beside me! what am i doing wrong? my other horses don't do this!

yes I know what you mean. Especially if it's a qualifier! On my circuit, there seems to be a separate competition amoungst competitors about who can qualify for various shows first!

best of luck! mine is on bank holiday monday! i put all my energies into getting ready and then forget about being nervous. Also, i've shown so often that I don't really get nervous anymore. That is, until I see my arch rival's horse box turning up!

I am a far worse rider on the left rein than the right. On the left, I bounce to the canter and my horse doesn't go so well for me. Any tips which I could incorperate into my daily hacks or schooling?
