Struggling with Arena surface in the dry weather - am I expecting too much?

I think it just needs replacing. Watering and rolling doesn’t seem to be an option, or at least not one the owners will consider. So frustrating!

Struggling with Arena surface in the dry weather - am I expecting too much?

I’m paranoid too but the other liveries / yard owner are making me wonder if I’m over reacting or being neurotic. I’ve also had horses with with suspensory problems before though. It’s so hard finding yards round here, and ones with decent surfaces is nigh on impossible. Will keep doing the...

Struggling with Arena surface in the dry weather - am I expecting too much?

Thank you that’s what I’m worried about. Was that front or hind?

Struggling with Arena surface in the dry weather - am I expecting too much?

How are everyone's arena surfaces in this weather? I recently moved to a new yard which ticks loads of boxes and my horses have settled in well. However the arena surface is really poor. It's old, but when we moved in (before the dry spell) it seemed rideable although not ideal, but all this...

Ideas for young horse routines when we can’t hack

That’s a good idea and a good alternative to pole work. I try to make polework as interesting as possible with shapes etc rather than just lines of poles, but other obstacles is a nice idea.

Ideas for young horse routines when we can’t hack

What do people do with their young horses (5yrs, rising 6) when you don’t have hacking. All summer we hacked several times a week (in addition to schooling, poles, groundwork etc), but since we lost the light this has been reduced to weekends and sometimes less due to the various UK storms...

Going away for 12 days in Jan - what to do with young horse dilemma!

Ok thanks everyone. Sounds like I need to be less precious 😂 I think she’d not had the best start before I got her and she is super sensitive, so after spending the 6 months since I bought her working on rideability, confidence etc I guess I’m just nervous about handing over the reins! Maybe my...

Going away for 12 days in Jan - what to do with young horse dilemma!

I know it’s very much a first world problem, but I’m in a fortunate position that we’ve booked a 12 day holiday at the end of January. But I’ve never been away for anything like that long before and only ever before in the summer so am now very stressed about it! I have an older boy who is...

What do WOW headplate widths equate to in normal saddles?

Ok thanks, not as simple as I hoped then!

What do WOW headplate widths equate to in normal saddles?

I'm currently using a WOW saddle, although would like to try a traditional saddle too as a comparison. My mare is in a size 2U headplate - what would this be the equivalent in standard saddle widths? Medium? Medium Wide? Thanks

Premier equine stable rugs - anyone tried the hydra?

I really like the liner system for rugs as find it much less complicated to know what I'm doing. I currently use the 100g stable buster with various liners for my older boy, but I've just bought a youngster and am debating whether to do exactly the same of get a different outer. I like the...

New mare is loopy …. Feed change recommendations

That’s definitely worth considering then. She was out individually at the yard I bought her from, but she hasn’t been there long and I think was out with others prior to that so could definitely be a factor. I worry a bit about putting them out together when she’s in season, but may be worrying...

New mare is loopy …. Feed change recommendations

Thanks. I borrowed an equitex saddle pad today and was definitely happier in that. I’ve got the wow fitter coming tomorrow so will speak to her and see what she can do.

New mare is loopy …. Feed change recommendations

She’s just finished the 28day course and we’re tapering off. Pretty confident they are gone but want to feed chaff before I ride as a preventative. I’ve just picked up a bag of mollichaff light and molasses free which seemed to be pretty benign and has no alfalfa in it. I’ll try and find a...

New mare is loopy …. Feed change recommendations

That’s interesting. She’s on individual turnout but can chat to my gelding over the fence, and is stabled next door to him (and others) too.
