Hind Leg Inflamed Suspensory and positive vibes needed!

Well excuse me. I thought you were looking for some reassurance that he might be rideable again. I didn't realise you only want him to recover if he's going to be as good as he was before he was injured.

useing this bitless bridle on a youngster??

Totally agree with Sleipnir. A bridle is a bridle is a bridle and really, they're all much of a muchness. It's what's on the OTHER end of the reins that counts. if it suits you and your horse it matters nothing how old your horse is.

Coloured Cob Causes Concern amongst horse community.

Do you know you can spot an infected mare even before the foal is born? Somebody I know who knew very little about horses bought an all black mare from Derby sales cheap and then discovered it was in foal. I told him the foal would be a black and white cob. He asked how, and I said I could see...

    Riding bareback

LOL :D Saving time - if I only have half an hour of daylight then I don't want to waste it with grooming and tacking up! I don't have to ride on the roads (our village is a very quiet dead end though so traffic is rare), but I never see people on the hill or the bridleways bareback either.

    Riding bareback

Yesterday when I got to the yard it had been raining heavily and it was obviously going to rain heavily again pretty soon, so I just slapped a halter on each of my two horses, jumped on and whizzed them round the village for 30 minutes and thankfully missed the next rainstorm. I never, never see...

Horse has been put on long grass - how to keep weight down?!

Where can I get some bales of this to feed to my horses? this type of old grass is EXACTLY what horses should eat!!

best friend have a heart grazing muzzles

Yes the Best Friend are MILES better than any other brand and well worth the money. They come higher up the face than other makes and so are almost impossible to get off. Mine has only ever got hers off in the freezing, freezing cold last year when the buckle shattered! I guess she rolled on it...

Recomedations for good all round hoof boots.

You're going to have to try various types. Also her feet now and her feet in 6 months of barefoot trimming will be totally different shape and possible size too, so the boots that fit this week may be useless in 6 months. Boots that come high over the hoof (cavallo, Boa) can rub badly on the...

Following on from SS thread... who has tried western riding?

Me too, exactly. It all started when people kept asking me if I was riding western because I was always on a loose rein and I would answer "no, I'm just a slob" But I got into the real thing and now both my horses are exclusively western, I would never ride for more than 30 minutes on an English...

Do I need to put weight on my horse?

I would put in a picture but I'm afraid i have no idea how to do that!

    Standing at mounting block

No. Horses do not 'take the mickey' they do what they think is right. Either you are doing something that nobody else does that she doesn't like, or you are doing something that makes her think you want her to move. Ask somebody experienced to watch you at the block and maybe they can see where...

    New horse not leaving home!

Totally agree with oldie48 This horse has confidence issues - she doesn't have any. She's happy to follow other horses or you but she doesn't have that confidence for herself. Lots of praise when she goes forward, even if it's only to the end of the road. Never get mad or stress her. Make...

Do I need to put weight on my horse?

My Welsh Cob 24 years old was semi-retired until she developed laminitis due to IR and PPID last autumn. She's the special horse of my life so I have put everything I have into getting her right and now she is super fit, lean, good feet (barefoot) and working quite hard, 2 hours of...

    Coping with sweet itch

I'm not sure there is any inheritance of Sweet itch. I bred my mare when she was 3 years old, she came back from stud in foal and developed sweet itch that same summer. I still have both her and her daughter, the daughter shows no sign of the problem at all... ...a friend of mine bred from her...

Founder prognosis - vet says pts!

Would I pts if this was my horse? No. But then I'm not you and I'm not pregnant, either. You have to make the decision if you are up to the amount of work and care required and this horse will still be far from right when you are due to give birth. Can - or even will - anyone else give the...
