Thank you everyone. I'm feeling a lot better about it now and have come up with a plan for practice. It's really interesting to search for this problem and see how common it actually is.

The breast bar was on its highest setting by the way so be must have reared otherwise i cannot understand how he could manage it.

From what I can tell, he put his right fore over the bar and the Hay net was tied in the middle of the front (over the window if you can imagine). And somehow he caught it with his hoof and it got under his shoe and stuck. I can't think how he got so close to it tbh. The hay is in the middle...
