A different approach.. I was in a similar place to you not so long ago, I went to my horsey dad for advice.
Firstly, he made me buy a body protector because psychologically it made me feel safer. then he led me out, bareback and on a headcollar with a neckstrap so I had nothing to worry about...
Mine will hopefully end up in more than light work before the end of the year, but at the moment isn't.
He will have a blanket clip to start with, then when he is doing more around Christmas time, it's all coming off!
I'll be riding in the evenings so won't have the time to dry sweat off...
Thankyou.
Sadly (or possibly luckily) I was there to watch it happen (He was out in the field, a horse got loose on the yard and sent him crazy, kicked out through a fence and pulled his leg back through awkwardly :()
He gets extremely stressed if you try and pin him down with anything...
What about trying for a simpler trick first? Like lifting a leg or smiling.. from what I understand, teaching to bow is quite difficult mentally and physically for a horse so probably not ideal for a 2yo :)
My ISH has had the summer off due to a hock injury (a strain, he was lame and boxrested for five weeks then came sound and brought back in to work and was then turned away)
He's not the most cooperative of horses, and I'm not the bravest of riders. When he was in work, our system was me...
