I would want to get the back and stifle as strong as possible so lots of leading out hacking, long lining and walk poles/water treadmill before getting on and adding the rider to the mix.
A decent physio with a background in rehab will also help.
Good luck!
A lot go through the sales in Ireland, and knowing that English tend to be wary, they’re snapped up by yards who add 25% on and sell them ten a Penny,
There is a college scheme in Ireland where the kids have to work with the college to back/train a horse and then sell via the sales - I nearly...
I used to work 9-5, a little bit of flex or WFH, with at least an hour commute usually 90 min each way.
I had two on DIY.
My week days basically were get up at 5, leave the house 5:45. Yard by 6.
Muck/skip out, do hay/water and turn out. Leave the yard by 7:30 latest
Drive to work - usually...
I know a green 7/8yo, very sensible - I’d describe it as a bit dull and boring. Had done a season of RC showing with a child after being backed very late.
Wasn’t particularly talented or interested in jumping.
£17k and it sold.
Easily £15k plus if it will pass a vetting.
Ive got what you describe, is a literal saint - does a nice test, jumps, water everything you ask and would be competitive if you wanted.
I paid peanuts for her pre Covid and have turned down £20k for her.
I don’t think Freestyle *just* a soft tissue injury, and didn’t she have lami at one point?
Thing is, when she was winning, Emma didn’t seem overly concerned about the system or training - she was on board enough to send multiple horses to CDJ.
Pot and Kettle springs to mind!
I’ve got a white grey, and wet turnout.
It just takes a bit of effort, some decent products and a commitment to spot washing and they’re no worse than any other colour to keep clean
He knows his horses, knows what they are - and is very straight forward.
They won’t be ‘pet’ ponies and will have a very basic no fuss level of handling.
You couldn’t come to the yard in the morning until the YO daughter had got up and fed as she didn’t want hers disturbing/being fed and liked to feed all together.
I didn’t ask how I’d know she was out of bed and everything was fed, or if it would be done by 7:30 so I could get to work on time...
Will only deal with her own brands and I found her quite pushy for the latest ‘must have’ brands.
Deva Saddlery, Bill Perratt or David at Village would be my go to
Not for a child.
Mine goes in the field next to a fairly busy B road, delivery lorries, skip trucks etc all go along it and she can get literally to the narrow verge from her field. Doesn’t bat an eyelid in the field now but will still throw herself sideways and try to run if you are caught by...
