I'm so glad for this opportunity to confess! When I was about 10 or 11 I backed our little welsh section a three year old myself - bareback and in a headcollar and often without a hat - in the side paddock when I knew my Mum was out! Mum had planned on getting me to sit on her soon anyway...

I'm sure that responsible parents would be the first to intervene if they felt their child was dangerously overhorsed. But what would you do if your child said they weren't compatible with their pony/horse? For example, many many years ago I was very lucky as a child to have my ponies bought...
