Kay Humphries is the gold standard - hard to get hold of but fits saddles that actually fit!
You could try Mariaana at Better Saddles, she is near Guildford. Think its bettersaddles.co.uk .
Yikes - thank go he was OK (nasty scrapes though). Why do they have a death wish?? Worse than bloody sheep.
Good reminder to keep a hammer etc in the box - only time similar has happened to me was at home where hubby could bash the bent pin back into shape .. . have had to beg duct tape for...
Many thanks to those above for the "science bit" - really useful, will bookmark this thread.
I do think that farriers ought to have an awareness of this stuff, at the very least. It does seem to affect a large number of horses' feet, and they are regarded as experts in feet ... mine is shod btw.
CassieCob, with the horse who's had shoes on for 12 weeks - if they are still on!
Try posting on Kelly Marks's forum for an Equine Podiatrist and/or Recommended Associate in your area. A lot of EPs have had behavioural training so that they can work effectively with difficult horses (and...
Yep soaking the hay sounds like a good option, keeps his guts moving but cuts the calories drastically. I think even 20 mins soaking gets rid of a lot (maybe google to check) plus a good rinsing.
Maybe consider muzzling overnight? Some research just came out that says it's really...
Well sat from me too!!
Have found lunging over these things very useful, as well as some of the Monty Roberts "spookbusting" stuff - gives you some good strategies for dealing with scary things (and nipping tantrums in the bud).
Really gorgeous horse, flatwork pic is to die for.
I would say - practise your tests (in sections if your horse might anticipate) and get yourself videoed if you feel brave! Work out exactly which points you are riding to for each movement, eg quarter points for 15m circles, serpentines etc. It will get you accuracy marks.
On the day...
I would definitely get your IH person out again for two reasons:
1. there may be more going than meets the eye, that they are trained to spot
2. although she has showed you how to handle your horse in that situation, there are probably some little details that you haven't remembered which make...
Re read your initial post and you were asking what to put on the filly.
I would suggest a red Dually would be safest, as least likely to cause injury/hurt her in an emergency. A rope halter should be ok if carefully used - if she got loose and stepped on the rope you would want to check for...
I never realised people found insurance such an exciting subject . . ;-)
Control, IME, comes from the training you have done previously, not just from the kit you have on the horse's head. (eg the Bridleless not Brainless teamchase team, they are in control, calm and come back in the same...
Any updates on this?
My horse had a largish soft lump, like an oedema, which shrank over a few days into a hard lump under the skin the size of a large pea. It's on his side just at the back edge of the girth, so lunged him for several days (naked) and rode him today with a pad under the...
Lovely horse!
Annabel is great, she does long distance video lessons on HorseVideoAnalysis.com and her comments and exercises are spot on.
I like the fact that she is a top DR judge and has produced young horses to top level in eventing and Sj too. She will not let you fiddle or fake the...
