Why are "normal" horses afraid of Shetlands?

I really have no idea. My boy is really brave and its the only thing that makes him spook. A house on my favourite hacking route has a shetland and we always go past it sideways at speed with lots of snorting. Its not even near the road, they keep it at the back! He still has a meltdown even...

    Martin Clunes: Heavy Horse Power

I enjoyed it apart from it was very "bitty". Here I am in the States, now i'm in Scotland, now i'm in the States again, now i'm in France. I said to my husband - he gets around a bit doesnt he! I think it would have worked better as a series with more focus on each place but i guess they dont...

Putting certain items on 'for the look'

I just dont care what anyone does. I really couldnt tell you anyone at my yard who has excess tack or whether they need it. I never even look. But then I only know the names of about three people at my yard and that's because they have them on their jacket so I think its quite useful! Even...

    Mountain horse bodyguard jacket

I have a pink joy riderz and I love it. The inner jacket is really warm and waterproof so i really only use the outer padded one for road hacking. I've definitely not had any bruises since wearing it but that might because I havent fallen off yet! I do put my hi vis gillet on over the top but...

    Great Idea but...

Its difficult with Essex. Sometimes we are South East. Sometimes just East. I am observing and judging which people seem better and then i'll tag along with them!!

    Big horses!

16.3 ISH and 17.3 ID. I'm 5'9. I'd like to say we do a bit of everything but in fact we mostly do a whole lot of nothing much! I love big horses. The bigger the better.

    Horses with human names?

I love human names. We've got a Steve, a Bill and a Winston on our yard. Steve is my favourite. It just makes me laugh when people say "this is my horse, Steve".

Strange horsey people you've had the misfortune of meeting!

This is brilliant. I havent laughed so much in ages. Every time I think about it, it just starts me off again. Poor horse. Did he get to fulfill his fireman dreams?

    Hacking on roads

I think it depends on the local people. I used to hate it when I had my first horse because I had so many near misses but since i've been at my current yard I've been really impressed with how respectful people are. Not just drivers but people in their front gardens/with dogs etc. I love...

    Working Livery

I had my first horse on working livery. Unfortunately it didnt work out too well for me because he was a good allrounder and therefore ended up being used in 4 or 5 lessons a day (hourly lessons). Others on the yard with more difficult horses were rarely used. In the end I switched him to...

    My horse was sick... Really

Exactly. I cant vomit despite the theory I should be able to so makes sense it would work the other way. And also ewww. So glad I logged on whilst eating my breakfast. I think i'll skip the banana with my cereal today.
