    Tell me about horseboxes

Sorry, I've forgotten to check for replies. Thank you Abacus, that's interesting info. Because the van shaped ones were that much cheaper I presumed they were too tight a squeeze and less welcoming to the horse so it's interesting to hear such a positive side to them.

    Tell me about horseboxes

Thank you TTT, that's what I'm erring towards. Are there any particular ones to look out for - either because they're so good or because they're so bad?

    Tell me about horseboxes

Thanks Soulfull, It is an M reg Mercedes, space for 3/4 horses as well as a storage area where the living normally goes. It does have power steering and is actually a good lorry, started perfectly every time, etc etc but just feels too big for me, particularly since I never have any need to...

    Tell me about horseboxes

We've decided to sell our 7.5t hunting lorry as it's too big and bulky for what I need so I am investigating smaller lorries. Please can you all tell me your experiences and important things to consider when buying a smaller lorry. I will be transporting one horse, 16.1 about 530kg or...

Alfa A Oil and ex racehorse - any good??

I used to feed my ex racehorse on Alfa A oil and Saracen Releve and he went from being a racing snake straight out of training to looking well filled and shiny and fantastic. He wasn't loopy on it at all. HOwever, he doesn't like oil in food and was leaving most of his feed to his friend who...

    EMS - would you?

We are considering taking a pony on loan who is perfect in every possible way apart from the fact she has been diagnosed with EMS. She isn't on any medication and hasn't had a bout of laminitis for a year but she has heart bar shoes on and is on a very restricted diet, in all day and turned out...

    Pasture Management advice...

Thank you for that Leviathan. I wondered about fertilising but thought that perhaps it might be a case of increasing the nitrogen levels and likewise weedkilling would obliterate any other good herbs, all of which can help towards laminitis and mineral deficiencies. Naughty pony is being...

    Pasture Management advice...

I have a TB who is in good condition (but only because i've worked hard to get him there) and a 12hh pony. The 12hh pony isn't laminitic (I work hard at this too! He's muzzled in spring/summer) and lives out 24/7 at any time of year. The TB lives out in the summer/spring and is in overnight in...

    Children's ponies to rent?

Sadly the riding school adopt-a-pony schemes wouldn't work for us as I would like to have a horse again and so it would suit to have the pony at home as a companion for my horse too. I've had a look at the rescue centres but they all seem to have issues, normally that they are sharp or green...

    Children's ponies to rent?

I remember reading years ago in h&H about a woman who had various ponies that she rented out to families on a loan scheme. Now that we have a 3yr old who would love to have her first pony, and an 18 month old who will surely follow in her footsteps, I thought this might be worth investigating...

Exercises for horse who finds it hard on the left rein........

There is a swedish (at least I think she's swedish but she speaks very good english) girl called Marijke de Jong who has produced all sorts of free e-books that you can download and her absolute specialty is straightness of the horse and she predominantly uses lateral exercises both in hand and...

Calling all Mums with horses and young children

I have a 2.5yr old daughter and a son who is 1 today. I had a fit and over exuberant competition horse who I sold about 9 months after our daughter was born. Had he not been so full of bucks and naughtiness, I would have hung on to him but I realised that being bucked off so frequently really...

    Does anyone hunt bitless?

Yes - my husband had control problems with a horse of his and I suspected the bit was the problem so I took him out hunting in a dr cooks and had a dream ride. Sadly by then my husband had decided to sell him so I only got one day, and it was only cubbing but it worked a treat. Also...
