    Stirrup leathers advice on length

I'm 5'3 and I have kids 48" leathers. I'm nearish to the top for jumping and in the middle for flatwork, so they should be ok length for you.

Help! Looking for ODE 2'3-2'6 in oxfordshire(ish) area?

I think the Malthouse Centre in Steventon are running some events in the summer from 2' to 2'9"

what bit do you use for showjumping and why?

My horse is ridden in a single jointed wilkie because he thinks he knows best, but it gives me the little bit more control I need, a grackle noseband because he likes to cross his jaw and ignore me and running martingale because he has his head so high otherwise he can hardly see the jumps...

Looking for 15'2 1st horse for daughter coming of pony.

Just do what my parents did and give up and buy your daughter a 5 year old 16.1hh warmblood. On second thoughts, only do that if your daughter doesn't mind spending a lot of time lying in a heap. He's definitely taught me alot, but I think i would have preferred a 15.2 saint!

    Another Question...

Although he's only 5, my horse has already competed at a higher level than I will ever want. He came to me having jumped consistanly round 1.20m courses, but all I want are to do a few unaffiliated 2'9 classes. He's never going to be a superstar, but I am told he would probably be capable of...

fit of ideal jessica saddle compared to albion k2

I normally ride my horse in a k2 saddle, but when I was looking for a dressage saddle, I tried on an Ideal Jessica. It didn't fit anywhere near him, despite being the same size, and the saddler told me that they are very different saddles, made on very different trees. So I guess it depends on...

How many of you and when...

I got my first pony when I was twelve and sold her a few months ago. I got my first horse when I was 15, in the summer. I used to have two ponies, but now my one horse can do all that they could and much more. I also ride and look after my mum's pony quite a bit, though he is'nt mine.

I heart my horse and the opportunities she gives to me

I love my horse because he puts up with me, whatever I do to him. He'll let me put bows in his mane and just giving him cuddles, he would never stop at a jump, I always feel safe on him, I can just hop on him bareback in a headcollar and plod around, he doesn't get scared when I do, we enjoy the...

    Ugh Horsey Fashion RANt!!!!

Sometimes people aren't just using them for fashion though. I used to ride my last pony in a dutch gag and a grakle noseband because it was the only way I could stop! People probably looked down on me for it, but all the other combinations I tried seemed to end up with me in a heap on the floor...

A quick Q about feeding hay

We always feed our laminitic soaked hay because it reduces the energy content so he can actually eat a decent amount without getting fat.

loose ring snaffle with a peanut, does it exist without happymouth?

Shires do a loose ring bit with a lozenge which is quite rounded. It's called a training bit and it worked really well on my pony who was fussy in his mouth Here's the link: http://www.shiresequestrian.co.uk/shop/product.php?productid=681&cat=572&page=9

    3 Round bales per week!!!

For three beasties we're getting through a big square bale about once every 1 1/2 - 2 weeks, with them in at night and in one day a week. Even though it's got colder, they just don't seem to be eating much. I think it's because they are out on new paddocks with lots of grass. This time last year...

Would you let a novice or beginner on your horse?

On my current horse, I would let a complete beginner have a walk around with me leading but nothing more. I wouldn't let a real novice ride him as he is likely to do exactly as he wants and completely ignore the rider on the top. I used to let anybody ride my last pony in the school because she...

    Connemara's as a breed?

I had a connemara and he was a bit like marmite - you either loved him or you hated him. He was very stubborn about some things, so was hard to do flatwork on but he was an awsome showjumper and hunting pony. You could just leave him to it and in the 5 months I had him I went from jumping 1'6"...

    Who rides under floodlights??

I expected my horse to be spooky and a bit unsure in the flood lights but I find he actually concentrates better in the dark because he can't see what's happening outside the school. He must have been ridden under floodlights before I got him, so I think he's just used to it.
