Hot tap portable horse shower - thoughts?

Do you have enough water pressure for an electric shower (of the sort you buy in B&Q etc) ? These make a very easy and straightforward horse shower, mounted high on the wall so it cant be kicked and with a double or triple length of shower hose attached between the unit and the head, and the...

Can you make a profit from running a livery yard?

QUOTE Staffing pure livery yards is difficult because it’s a mind numbing dull job - predominantly shit shovelling and getting moaned at for making the wrong rug/feed choice or missing a spec of poo in the bed. Few perks to keep people in that type of job. This is a really good point. I am...

    Hips and Mounting Problems

The 4 step plastic blocks always feel very wobbly to me plus the top step is very narrow! I have no physical mounting issues but an annoying horse that reverses which has resulted in mental mounting issues if there is no one to hold horse (yes I know this is ridiculous). The solution is a...

Can you make a profit from running a livery yard?

A lot of sensible points here. If you are offering DIY you probably need a slightly different set up (more storage etc) than full livery, but for 5 day and 7 day livery you need good, reliable staff and to take into account pay and a sensible staff:horse ratio. Generally people will pay more for...

Dressage saddles, suggestions of what to try.

I have a Fairfax gareth and IMHO defo worth a try. Its extremely stable on the horse, monoflapped and has a decent block at the front. Some of the blocks and the headplates are changeable which means its pretty adjustable. Its part flock and part prolite. Nice and light.

Transform the BHS - Not vitriol but vision

I think the BHS allowed itself to become very outdated in terms of exams and education (see the rise of the UKCC) which has been at the heart of its decline. Since it lost BE, BD etc it has struggled with purpose and meaning and direction. I think it should be focussing on (1) education (2)...

Replacement zipper for long Riding Boot?

First Class Boot repairs in kent - you send the boots off and they send them back (quite quickly). Google them for details, and to print off the freepost labels etc. They have done my konigs a few times.

How do you progress when your horse lacks a trainable attitude?

If you have never tried Equifeast cool calm and collected, try it. The only other thing that sprung to mind when I read your post (and I may have misinterpreted) was that on the one hand if you give her an inch she takes a mile, and on the other hand you had a tough ride one day and gave up...

    Fair fax girths

Hi My sister has one and is of the view it has improved her horse's way of going. She (vet) also thinks they can be good on horses with ulcers and that kind of thing as they redistribute pressure. I have one and I think its good although tbh I havent really noticed a big difference from its...

Soft shell show jackets - for hiding tums?

Hi MagicMelon, I also am not skinny and I also hate the jackets which have the last button above the waistband of your breeches. I now have a Pikeur Sarissa and it is black softshell with a zip at the front and buttons over the top so you cant see the zip. It does not do the horrible last button...

    Dressage Jackets?

I have just bought a pikeur sarissa as I needed a new jacket and I was totally fed up with being boiling, jacket lining sticking to me when I try to put it on and am sweaty from warming the horse up, being uncomfortable in rigid non-stretchy fabric, buttons too high up the body etc etc -...

Hock Spavin surgery - anyone had it done?

Many years ago my mum's horse had this surgery - the drilling of the bone to encourage the fusion. They were initially going to use the alcohol injections to fencourage the fusion of the joint but there wasn't space to inject it so they elected to drill instead. It was done at newmarket AHT and...

    Property Location- Commutable to London?

Another idea is the thameslink line into farringdon or city thameslink, which would take you to south beds (flitwick, harlington) which isnt especially pricey, or one of the kent/sussex lines which go into cannon street, blackfriars or london bridge, or the south essex lines into fenchurch...

    Property Location- Commutable to London?

If he needs to be near liv st then forget Paddington or anywhere like that which will mean a tube or bus rides and a big increase in journey time. I would similarly forget Surrey or anywhere to Waterloo. Look at the lines into moorgate or Liverpool st both have lots of horsey places on them.
