    Scottish stud sell off...?

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Well I hope the 30yo mare & gelding found a last home, I think it rather sad that they had to endure the sale ring! [/ QUOTE ] Friggin appalling actually. The welfare agencies involved should feel thoroughly ashamed of themselves. [/ QUOTE ] The two eldest have...

What happened to previous post on sale of horses?

Was thinking that myself but can't see what could have provoked it. As far as I followed most posts were intimating disgust that horses and ponies were being treated as cattle, including some very old ponies (one of which was 37 yrs old). I have to say that I didn't see any posts after about...

What happened to previous post on sale of horses?

Was following a post about a sale of horses tomorrow at an auction in the north east of Scotland. What has happened to this? Has disappeared since this afternoon. Can anyone explain?

    Dealing with separation trauma -Help!

Thanks everyone. I'll try taking her out of the field first tomorrow and doing a little groundwork to see how she gets on. She's a lovely mare - just a shame that she wasn't handled a bit better earlier on and the separation issues weren't dealt with then. She is a warmblood - not that this...

    Dealing with separation trauma -Help!

Hi, hope someone out there has some ideas or previous experience of dealing with a horse with separation issues. I'm looking after a horse which has recently been separated from it's full sister after 7 years together. It has now turned it's affections to a younger field companion with...

Large 16.2 in an Ifor 505..?

I've got a 16.1hh medium weight horse who refused to get into a lovely equitrek belonging to a friend but happily got into an Ifor Williams 505. Was really too small though - not enough head room and width wise. Got a 510 and she's happy with that although our 11hh pony is a bit lost in it...

    Too late to clip?

Advice please. Have roughed off my horse over winter and now coming back into work. Usually work to rule of thumb that you don't clip after Feb but wonder why? Will this make such a difference to summer coat etc? Have never clipped this late before so any views welcome. Cheers.

How much for a green WB 6yr old?

Hi, looking for some advice here. A friend is selling a warmblood mare - 6yrs old, hacks out but has had minimal schooling - no lateral work. Never seen a pole and hasn't been competed. I've known her for a couple of years and she's sound. We are based in Scotland where nothing seems to be...

    Horse bedding that works!!

I'm using it too. I don't lay a full bed as we are on mats but most mornings I have just one barrow between two stables. Having said that I tend to skip out at my last check around about 10pm. Much easier than straw and, dare I say it, even shavings. Paying more than £3.50 a bale though but...

    Mixing Sheep and Horses???

We keep ours with sheep too. We've had a couple who masqueraded as sheepdogs for a while but they soon tired of that game. Was a bit worrying at the time as they picked on my brother-in-law's precious Texel lambs but no disasters in the end. Great for keeping down weeds such as docks and...

Costs of Building a school - and any guides/books?

Hi, we've just finished ours which is 30 x 50m. I found it hard to find guides but in the end used Jackson Arenas DIY guide a big help (check on internet) . Most of it was common sense but we ended up with big problems when the topsoil was removed to create the correct levels. Underneath was...

    Isabell Werth saddle

I was looking for one on ebay for ages and couldn't get anything for less than £350. In the end I bought new from Equestrian Clearance Warehouse for less than £500 including full set of gullets.

What do you think of her conformation

    Too green to hunt yet???

Absolutely no! Agree with everyone's comments. Apart from fitness issues you've spent a lot of time building trust and confidence whilst backing and training your horse. Seems a shame to risk all that work for someone else to get an adrenalin kick.

    Turn out in this weather

Mine are also out 24/7. This includes tbx with rugs on and hay in field and we've had minus figures constantly for about 10 days (live north of the border). Only time any of mine had a problem was last year when my shetland, who has never had a night in a stable in her life, was injured...
