    PTS a pony that's "fine"

I've just had my cob put to sleep last week who had hock arthritis. Very similar story to you I bought him as a 5 year old and had six months riding out of him before he went lame and had been retired for almost 6 years. The only thing I regret now in hindsight is not putting him to sleep sooner...

    Weekend plans :D

First time posting here long term lurker! I am doing my first dressage test in 13 years on my youngster athe weekend, hoping we just get round in one piece as he is very spooky at the best of times and spent most of our schooling session last night levitating sideways! o_O

    Why? (Moan alert)

I know exactly how you're feeling, lost my horse in June to a check ligament injury and was horrid those months while he was lame watching people who like you said don't really care what they do with their horses hacking and enjoying themselves. I find myself asking 'why me' all the time lol!

Possible lameness - what do I need to know?

Depending on your vet some will ultrasound at the yard etc but some may need you at the clinic. My horse had a catastrophic check ligament injury which presented with absolutely no swelling or heat just lameness.

    Ideas please to stop overbending.

Echo the above, my mare used to over bend dramatically and it's not nice having her head disappear out the front door! (previous owner had ridden in draw reins and was very focused on getting her head apparently 'down and in the right place' my instructer told me to gently lift my hands to...

    Bad Check ligament injury experiences

Thank you for your reply! I'm glad to hear your mare came back from it. The surgery the vet intends to do is to cut the check ligament but she explained it's quite a rare surgery and couldn't really give me a prognosis. I haven't managed to find many experiences of this surgery done in adult...

    Bad Check ligament injury experiences

Thank you, it's just very frustrating as I haven't had him very long and he's been lame for most of it, no end in sight at the moment!

    Bad Check ligament injury experiences

Just bumping, the ligament has shortened causing his pastern angle to become very upright, he is now on restricted turnout with the walking time being increased by five minutes each week however I have not seen enough improvement since we started this and the ligament is not stretching out. My...

Check ligament injury. Stories, treatment etc please

Hi, I'd just posted a thread but seen this had been posted on a short time ago and missed it. I am currently six months on from a pretty bad check ligament injury in my 5 year old's right front leg and losing the will to live. Originally he was also lame on his left hind but this disappeared...

    Bad Check ligament injury experiences

Hi, was wondering if anyone has had any experiences with a bad check ligament injury. My horse did his right front check in August and is still lame. We are due back at the vets in three weeks time for another ultrasound scan after completing his inhand walking program but I feel like we have...

Miscanthus bedding for very wet horse on box rest

Definitely thinking now that miscanthus is not the way to go and to just stick with the pellets, will get a quote for the matting however, as I think that will be only way I could make a difference.
